Hello all,

Long story short,

I am running a holset hx-40 with link and SD @ 30 psi on E85 w/ stock FWD trans (I know....) While doing a second gear pull the other night my car sort of "lurched forward abruptly" @ around 5000rpms. I thought for a split second my car misfired and opted to shift into 3rd gear. (Its crazy how those split decisions can cost a lot of money).

Anyways after shifting into third it stayed locked there. I tried shifting through all the gears but it was stuck in third. Ive had this happen before with my previous AWD dsm. (This car happens to be FWD though). Broken shift fork 3-4, and whatever gear that you first visually see from the bottom when you split the intermediate case has a nice groove cut into the teeth all way around,

Yay broken roll pin destroyed my gear.

So now I have the; 5th gear cover torn off, all of the stuff behind the 5th/reverse cover is out, the 3 detent balls, the reverse switch, and (2) more bolts that have spheres at the end of them. ones a 14mm and the other a 12mm both are on left side of shifter weight right above fluid fill.

I have the axles out, the transmission in neutral, and the case is split about 1-1/2" for my viewing pleasure of the destruction. However,

I cant get the dam case to come any farther!! Its locked on something and Im contempalting just pulling the engine at this point.

I followed Twicks69's info from another thread and still cant get this bastard to budge.

Need suggestions,

Thanks!

Why didn't you pull the transmission? Some of those gears are supposed to have a line around them depending on year.

pull the reverse idler bolt above the passenger axle.

Well I am just pulling the cluster because I wanted to have it back on the track ASAP.

And yes, that last little bolt. The bolt that I couldnt see until my head was rammed into the engine bay was the only thing holding me.

As far as the line on the gear. As a machinist im am certain that it was not supposed to be there as there is still shear gunk all over the teeth.

Thanks for the help!!!
