Bled lifters, no tick. Rebuild/bled again - massive tick?!?

Built my first DSM motor/head and I made sure I bleed the lifters because I didn't want to bend any valves. Lifters have 145k miles on them. The whole time the motor didn't tick or 'lifter tick' at all. I was honestly surprised. I had to pull the head and checkout the valves due to a timing accident and I pulled the lifters for good measure and bleed them. NOW...they tick like...I can hear the ####ers ticking with the hood shut while im in the car. What exactly did I do wrong to go from no tick tick to TICK TICK TICK?

WELL, you're gonna have to let them run in for a good long while until the oil fills them up during idle. Even though they tik like mad, at least you didn't damage any valves.

I did a 1.8L with new lifters and it took 2 hrs for all of them to finally quit ticking.

Give them time to fill in.

Oh was I lucky...I timed the intake cam 180 deg off. Pulled the head and nothing was touched...did notice some scratches on cyl 4's wall, motor is freshly rebuilt as of almost 200 miles ago but my finger nail doesn't catch on them. Got it all back together...gonna go put some miles on it and check the oil etc. I knew lifter tick was loud but my god, guess it's a learning experience for my first DSM .

It will usally take a few hours for them to stop clicking.
