I did not know that. Makes me not want to be near them. I remember when I was younger I played with them.

Yep, sorry guys. Daddy long legs venom is a myth.


Anyways, growing up around boats and boat houses we learned that the most effective way to keep spiders(in general) out of the boat, engine compartment or whatever was to place a gallon bucket of peeled chestnuts in the area.

I'd go fill my 4L ice cream bucket up with chest nuts from a nearby tree and crack 'em, peel 'em and dump 'em back into the bucket.
I've got no science for you, only anecdotal experience...and some old guy once told me that it was the smell the spiders didn't like.

I hate spiders, I was painting a house along time ago and got to see a square off between a big daddy long leg and a brown recluse. Pretty awsome stare down for like 5 minutes, when the recluse made a move 2 more grand daddy legs cane out of the wood works and jumped him on the ceiling. Now that was epic!
