So, I had a busy day at work tonight delivering pizza in my GSX. About half way through my work shift, my turbo stopped spooling. The boost gauge would go to 0psi then stop there. I worked the rest of my shift with no boost, then on my way home from work (only 4-5 blocks away from my work) the car just died on me... The last thing that happened was a slight "thunk" sound when I down shifted coming to a stop sign. I tried starting it back up and all it does is make a loud click noise when I try to turn it on. Sounds like the starter IS engaging and it is trying to start, but something it stopping the flywheel. Can anyone help me with this? I will be looking into it in more detail tomorrow seeing in how I have to work Super Bowl Sunday and it will be very busy. My normal "work car" is in the process of being traded, and dont have other vehicle ready yet. Thank you all once again for the help.

This definitely doesn't sound like a flywheel/transmission issue. The first thing I'd check is the timing, my bet is that it slipped and you have a valve embedded into a piston. The boost issue seems to be totally unrelated.

when I look in the little hole on top of the tranny, (under the water neck area on top of tranny) and it looks like I can see something up against the flywheel??? what could possibly be up against the flywheel that would cause it not to start? When I try starting it, it makes a clunk noise and I can see the flywheel move like 1/4" then move back...

I was thinking about trying to push start it, but didnt know if it could make things worse

Maybe your flywheel bolts came out , food for thought, under the car by the oil pan there is an inspection plate that you can look at the flywheel. Poke at it and see if its loose.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely take all thoughts into aspect. I will look at it in the morning and HOPEFULLY it isnt a big problem like bearings or valves... It has been burning oil... but shouldn't be low.

Could be the starter itself too. I have had a car come in that the starter housing (round part of it around the gear) actually broke off the starter, and wedged between the starter gear and flywheel, and since it was broke, there was nothing keeping the starter bearing centered, so when the starter ran, it would only turn so far, and the bearing would go out of center and stop. Rare chance it's the same problem, but just a note, you may want to check that too. +1 on the inspection plate, 2 bolts and you have pretty good access to the flywheel to inspect for foreign material and flywheel bolts.

Oh oh I know, pick me!

So the turbo seized up from lack of lubrication, then the engine was soon to follow.

GSXs are crappy for delivering pizzas. You need a Civic with 20" rims, or a Grand Prix with 20" rims for that job.

LOL, was just using the gsx for delivery because I just sold my grand prix GTP and am in the process of getting another delivery car.

I am hoping the motor is not locked up... I will spray a ton of lubricant into the valves by taking out the spark plugs... I am going to inspect the flywheel and starter later today.. hopefully before the superbowl game starts.

LOL I guessed what you drove, that's f-ing classic. If you dump oil in the spark plug holes, you're oiling the pistons, not the valves. Probably should just put a breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt, and confirm my diagnosis.

Ps. If the flywheel moves about a 1/4" and moves back, it could be that the cams seized and the timing belt my be holding the crank back.

Ps2. Sorry about your sh--ty luck. That's a bummer.

haha, welllll... I just put almost a can of liquid wrench onto my pistons (my bad... still under the spark plugs.) and let it set for about 20 minutes, put some synthetic oil in the motor, and it became unbind. Success!!! Now to see how long it will run...
