Ok so yesterday i thought my clutch was slipping... I leave my girls house just to hear a clanking.. WTF
Get out see that the driver side cv axle is hanging so i thought oh well just snapped it..Buy a new one right?? Wrong..
Went out to check on it today and the bracket that holds up the axle is hanging.. Easy fix new bolts cause they just backed out right?? Wrong again the things snapped off inside the block.. :banghead:
So my question is does anyone know how i can get them out quickly and without having to pull the block?? Or a way i can get the car drivable for a day? I have to have the car up and running tomorrow if possible and don't have money to rent the lift and stand for the motor..

I just got done pulling my engine to do the exact same thing. If you drop the DP and transfer case you might be able to get a right angle drill in there. I pulled the block instead because I was worried about not drilling it out straight. I was however able to get the broken bolts out without damaging the threads. Good luck.

Well I didn't use a torch or an easy out. I drilled into the bolt with a small drill bit and when I stepped up a size the drill bit caught and started spinning the bolt out. Then I just spun it out the rest of the way with my fingers.

Ya im hoping i can find a way to get it out easily.. I don't want to have to pull the damn motor for two bolts ya know?? Seems a bit drastic LOL...But with the space mitsu. gave us on these things you either have to be Japanese or a damn midget to even change your oil in these cars let alone do anything else:hmm:..

Do you have your air conditioning removed? There is supposed to be a bracket for the A/C that is also used as a space for the axle's carrier bearings (the part bolted to the block that broke). If you do not have that bracket, there is your problem.

edit: Terrible thread title. Change to something along the lines of "carrier bearing bolts broke".

Mitsu sells a spacer to use if you remove the ac bracket. Did the bolts brake off flush with the block? if not get some vice grips and turn them out.

No a/c it was removed when i bought the car... So there is another bracket to hold it up?? Is it something i can get from like a N/A 2.0 cause there are NO gsx's or even turbo dsm's in our local junk yards..
IDK how to change the title LOL..

Yes, the A/C bracket is actually rather large. Just trim off the bracket part that you need.

Yep broke off flush.. Actually kinda set back inside the block about a 1/16 of an inch.. No spacer i seen either but it could have fallen off..IDK man i just need to get her running quick.. Its my DD..

Luckily for you, the bolts will have absolutely zero torque on them. Once you can get any sort of grip on them, they will spin out freely.

I really hope your right bro..But why wouldn't they have any torque on them LOL im confused about that??
I guess this is what i get from always talking shit about my dsm never breaking LOL.. And letting the old lady drive it just more bad juju.. She bugs me for a two months about it, i finally say ok take it for the day. And next day this happens i thinks she was out trying to have fun even though the boost scares the hell out of her..
Anyone have ANY ideas of something to try and get it with??

There is no torque, because torque is made through the bolt stretching as the head of the bolt mates with the surface. Since there is no head on the bolt (broke off), there will be no torque. If you are lucky, they didn't break off flush and there is a small spot to get a drill bit or something else small and just spin the leftover threads that are left in the block.

You may be able to use a dremmel with a cutting wheel and cut a grove in the bolt. Then take a stubby flat head screwdriver and back them out.

I may be wrong but for the drivers side, you shouldnt have to remove the transfer case to get to these bolts.

You won't be able to get to them from the drivers side of the car. You will have to go from underneath it. You may not have to drop the transfer case but you will have to drop the DP. The transfer case isn't hard to drop though and any extra room you can give yourself will help.
