Sorry I don't have much time to search.. It is just alot faster for me to ask, so if it has been talked about before, please don't yell at me to bad. :thumb: I am working on my buddies 99GSX. I am putting a Big 16g turbo on it. He got it off ebay, also he got the j-pipe of ebay. I noticed that the J-pipe is on the top of the turbo housing, not on the bottom Like it seems like it supposed to be. I took the turbo apart to see if I could ajust the compression housing but found out there are alinement pins on the housing. So I don't know whats up with it. I know this is a very common turbo to put into these cars, so Im sure someone has a answer for this problem.
Thanks guys

On a 2g you need an install kit to fit a 14b, 16g, 18g, and some 20g turbos. Yes they face up torwards the hood so you would need a different pipe to connect it to the side mount. Also clocking it would make the waste gate not work because it would have nothing to bolt up to so the easiest solution is to make a new intercooler pipe.

You don't need to clock the 16g, the comp outlet is supposed to face up towards the front of the car. What jpipe did you get? If its a stock 1g jpipe it won't work as they have different ic pipeing. The proper jpipe can be seen here:

Just as a side note did he pick up a real MHI b16g or one of the knock off they sell on Ebay?

I thought there were only knockoffs of the Evo3... guess I shouldn't be surprised if they are copying B16's too.

With an external gate the 16g can be clocked. Grind the mounts for the actuator and polish the compressor housing to make it look really nice.

You would also have to remove the locating pin, but I'm not sure why you would want to clock it anyways as there are mass produced jpipes to connect with the stock 2g routeing or a short route fmic setup. If you clock it you are going to need some custom pipeing made up.

Ok guys, you are all being a very big help... This thing is stressing me out, because the guy is being a pain in my ass. First off he is the one who bought all the parts. And yes he got a knock off on ebay, and Yes now that I have seen the right j-pipe, he bought the wrong one. Now it is a matter of figuring the oil and coolant lines out.

As mentioned by CanadianTSi, the oil drain can be reused with a little modification. And definitely get a new SS oil feed line. The coolant lines can be reused as well, if you swap the front and back lines and can bend them a little. One or both may require a little bit longer rubber hose, but you can get them to work.

Check this vfaq and this vfaq on how to install a 16g into a 2g for more help. I used them both to install my 14b (same procedure as a 16g) and it worked very well.

wait a second, what is the code for the stock turbo on a 2G car?? I always thought a 14b was the stock turbo on them.

1g auto= 13g turbo
1g manual= 14b turbo
2g auto and manual= t25 turbo

Correct on the oil feed/return lines. For the coolent lines yes they can be reused as well but depending on your setup you may not want to switch the back with front. You will more then likely have to cut off the mounting brackets as they will interfear with the new turbo. Just play around with the lines and see what fits best. I ended up leaving my front & back in the same location, which worked out best for clearances on my setup. Will more then likely need some rubber hose to extend the return line.

On a side note, good luck with the 16g knock off, it may not even be the GT knock off. Would be interesting to see how long it lasts, keep us posted.
