Better fuel economy for 4g63t?

Turn down boost!?!?! WTF Usually better gas mileage can be achieved with your right foot and being a smooth driver ex. pull smoothly away from stops, coast to stop signs/red lights, ride a bicycle, make sure your car is running its best, eat less food to reduce weight, walk or driving an electric car.

Eat less food LMFAO :hellyeah:

Coasting to a stop in neutral uses fuel and is a waste. Letting the foot off the gas and letting the engine brake the car uses ZERO fuel until the engine reaches down to 1500 RPM and starts fueling again.

I've seen a few good threads on here regarding mpg's.

If I remember right there was a guy getting ~702 miles on a tank of fuel.

He had lots of good info on how the ecu 'thinks' , engine braking, keeping momentum, best times to shift, etc.

It's a really good thread, but I am too lazy to search it just yet... :D

don't drive it at all if you want to save gas, just kidding
you can drive like a grandma and take it easy, try not to hit boost,
shift around 2k-2.5k
and when your taking off from a stop go easy.
i've tried saving gas and it only works for a couple of stop lights.
cause i then come to a realization that i put all these upgrades to make my car faster
but since i want to save gas i'll go slow.

Thinking about this a bit more my Talon is the most fuel efficient vehicle I own. I think the fact it spends most of its time on jack stands may have something to do with how the tank stays full. :hmm:

That guy with the Laser has a lot of mods. Tuning matters a lot. I swore I read before that he had a 9:1 or higher engine, but I don't see that reading anything, now. It takes discipline to drive like that. I'd rather spend my money on a Prius and get an easy 50 MPG driving like a ****, with 87 octane, than drive a modded car like a grandma. Also, for the sake of these cars, where parts are gonna keep going up in price and get more scarce, I'd rather put the miles on something newer and a daily driver than a hobby car.

..I can nail 28mpg with my Laser on the freeway with cruise on doing 80mph. Just don't let the thing go into boost for that will make it sucks gas like a FORD SUV doing 65mph.

As always, full tuneup, tire pressure at 35lbs for stock 205.55.R16 .. and drive sane with a light foot. - just quit trying to beat every Honda u see on the street-just not worth it.

don't acell too slow as bogging burns more gas with wasted time than just half quickly getting up to speed, decel in gear cause above 2k rpm at 0 TPS all fuel injectors shut off. stay out of boost above 5-7psi..those are a few

I got better milage going from my 57 trim to my 67mm turbo because it didn't spool as easy requiring the fuel to match the forced extra air flow just from a hill in the road and such where as a smaller 16g would spool even higher using more fuel, u get the idea.

other than that a good tune up, and unrestricted intake/exhuast (but the int/exh can work both ways LOL)

best way to get best milage = no modifications..period!

just drive as you would if a cop is next to you.
just before xmas i was broke from buying present and had only 40 bucks for gas for about 1 1/2 weeks.
i put 20 bucks on 91 octane which is about 5 gallons here in LA i got about 150 miles
but i drove like a cop was next to me.

You wont be able to turn the boost down past whatever the spring in youre wastegate is set at. So turning the boost is pointless. Just do maintenace. Plugs, wires, oil change everytime you need it and use good gas. And stay out of boost like alll said. Thats how you really save you mpg's. But if all else fails, get a honduh. Ha.
