I have the walbro fuel pump I want to get in my car. I have tried to install it last weekend and ran into a few problems.

1.) Bolts on gas tank are way to rusty to try and get off dont want to snap the bolts and be left with no gas tank LOL. So dropping tank isnt gonna be easy.

2.) Going from the back seat I can get the white ring off that isnt the prob. Tryin to pull the assembly out is. The gas line that is connect with the weird nut and bolt style is also rusted badly and I'm afraid if i try to take that off to be able to pull the assembly straight up I will snap that also.

Anyone have and suggestions?

Get under the car and disconnect the fuel line under there. It is a lot easier because when you try to take the fuel line off on the top of the tank, that portion of the fuel line rotates instead of just the nut. But on the bottom of the cars fuel line connection, just the nut will turn.

Yes use two wrenches one to hold the line going into the tank so it does not twist and one to break the line loose. Lots of people try to just use one wrench to take the line off and end up wrecking the line that goes into the tank as it twists from being so rusty

Mine was rusted to hell and very stuck. I had other things I was doing to my car at the time so I just soaked all the rusted parts with penetrating oil every so often. By the time I got around to doing the pump they came apart no problem.

cool! I think thats the best way

I disconnected mine from the top. I soaked it with PB for a few days before I tried breaking it loose. It actually came off without any problems. The sending unit nuts however did not. I snapped 4 of them with a 1.4 inch ratchet and very very little pressure. I drilled out the broken ones carefully and put bolts in their place. I did this with the tank still in the car and everything works fine. It doesn't even leak!. Just be carefull not to let any metal shavings get into the tank while drilling.

Or just use vise grips.. I used them on very rusty bolts on my 92 talon. Any way they all came out find, but im putting in longer bolts with a 8mm head. Don't resure the old bolts, well i won't. :) Im gona finish my install on my wally 255 tommrow if it dont rain again. :l
