Ok so i am struggling to figure out my next move on my car, i've got a few things already on my talon and eventually want it near 400hp, for right now i just want to put a couple hundred into something to solve the fuel cut issue for right now but i dont want to throw it away later. Given what's posted on my profile.... whats a good use of my money? I'm waffling on a fuel cut defencer,or a gm maf and translater.

Personally I would go with ECMlink V3 lite.

Also there are a bunch of other options out there, but if you want to get to 400 then serious tuning is what you will need.

whats a couple hundred? 200 or 800? use it wisely either way. if your thinking of getting the translator then i would go with that. as your hp goes up your going to need a way eventualy to control the fuel.. link, safc, maf pro ect... never used link but used a safc, maf pro, and now currently aem on my 95gsx. i did my own tuning when i ran the safc and when i ran the maf pro. fairly easy to use if you know what your doing. also a wide band wouldn't be a bad idea so you make sure your not running rich/lean

I dont see it listed, So I will suggest a 2g maf, That will help with the fuel cut. The stock 1g maf sucks.

What are you tuning with? I see 550's, A fuel pump, And a reg, But no way of tuning. If you dont have one, Pick up a SAFC. You can get one used for cheap.

The other fellas are 100% right about ECMLink V3,, You will need an EPROM ecm ,Link And a lap top, It will cost you Between 5-6 hundred just for the computer and the program. If you dont have a lap top, Then one of those can cost you just as much.

But it is the best thing to get if you can afford it.

An SAFC and a 2g maf will cost you between 1-250 bucks, And you can make power with it.

Boost leak test? PRICELESS!!!

Again no one mentions the FREE one. *cough*nuthuggers*cough*. If your eprom pick yourself up a moates ostrich 2.0 emulator, can be found for $100-150, and download Jackal for free from DS-MAP - Index.

Just as capable as anything out there, built in logging, base maps supplied, just set your injector size and go. They also have a new version called "Werewolf" in beta atm.

For 400hp a 2g maf and safc will be a stretch. Especially since you wont be able to run anything larger then 550's. But that is a cheap option and not a bad spot to start as far as learning to tune.

Edit: Then again since you mentioned not wanting to throw it away later id avoid the safc for the reasons i just mentioned.

A translator isnt bad for what it is, you just have to learn how to use it.

I have a translator for sale if you decide to go that route; also have a 2g maf for sale.......

I have a halmeter af30 the ecmlink will come soon. Would a gm maf and translator solve my fuel cut issue and work with link later when i have the money? I dont have the eprom ecu so i know ill have to send it in when i get ecmlink. And yes leak test for sure i had to replace the throttle body shaft seals, everything else is in order (not a duck tape n bailing wire kind of guy):)

I am running 680's @ 45psi. fuel pressure without problems on a afc neo.

The maf and translator will help with the fuel cut issue, If it is actual fuel cut. The GM maf will work with link, But you will not need the translator. I hate to say it, But did you do a boost leak test. Most of the time, It is a boost leak that causes fuel cut. The other common problem is too much boost, Especially with a 1g maf. You can't run more than 14 psi. Without pushing it

Best way to not waste money is by doing the upgrade path in the proper order. Also researching the parts before you just up and buy a product because it looks or sounds neat.

Translators suck for tuning and I do not approve of their use.

Yes i did a leak test only thing that was leaking was the throttle body shaft seals. And i keep my boost around 14psi. So the gm maf would stay but i would be chucking the translator when i upgrade my ecu then? There is no way to use the gm maf without the translator?

Using the translator for tuning is just bad. The "tune" constantly changes depending on the weather. If you use ECMLink v3 full then you can use the GM MAF without a translator.

IF you go with v3 I would just opt to go with speed density personally since most people only get the GM MAF to vent their BOV.
