Best Place To Buy A Tranny?

I am going to need a new/ rebuilt transmission soon. What is my best option? 1. To get mine rebuilt. 2. To buy a rebuilt tranny. 3. To buy a new tranny. Or would you even recommend getting a better/more high performance transmission, what are some good options for that? What should I get, and where should I get it from? I am quite capable of putting the transmission in myself. Thank you for your help in advance.

That Black 91 Talon TSi on the Shep Racing site is my Hero.....That car is freaking awesome! As for Transmission rebuild, that is a bit pricey to my liking, although I'm sure they do a really good job!

or try www.teamrip.com if you need a rebuild id get it done right by people that only do dsm transmissions. a little more money might be worth it in the long run.

No offense, but the man already said Shep is too expensive. TRE's service is hundreds more than Sheps. It's pretty much out of the question. And TRE does do work on more than just DSM tranny's. Shep is all DSM though...... Maybe you got them mixed up.


If you can afford the Shep basic rebuild, you will be happy (as are the rest of us).

1) The car is burgandy.

2) His basic rebuilds are around $900. Fully built transmission, like the one he uses on his 8 sec Talon, runs around $2200.

You can't beat those prices and the quality.

Lol, I noticed it was Burgundy after I posted. That car is the coolest sleeper ever, looking at that car on the street I would NEVER guess that it Ran 8s & 9s. And...is $900 really that reasonable for a rebuild? I'm guessing the rebuild would make it better than a brand new tranny, but how much would a brand new one cost? Or are they not manufactured?

I would never go with TRE i tried to order a part from them and i had the most problems with them than with any other supplyer and if have done alot of modifiying you know how much of a pain it can be to get things. I will never go back to them or recomend any one to go to them after the way i was treated as a customer!!

Yeah, except for the parachute hanging off the back. That kinda gives it away.

$900 is very reasonable for a Shep rebuild. I spent almost $2300 on mine when I was there. He does better than an average rebuild from some average tranny shop. I personally, would rather have a Shep rebuild over a brand new tranny. And brand spankin new trannys are over $2000 I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.......
