the ebay one is: 25x7x2.8
the kinetic is: 24x12x3.5

plus i can get it locally so there's no shipping so 725 vs 875 (for the 2g kit, 1g kit is 825) i'd spend a few extra bux and get a better core

bluemeanie, your price is the same as JR's..

I've finally personally seen a kit from JR and it's top quality. although i built mine at around ~300 bucks, its nothing compared to his. He's probably the only eBay guy i'd trust with my money for an FMIC. either that or support a vendor :thumb:

get to know a couple of the guys up there and u wont' have that either ;)

as for the ebay thing the one i posted isn't ebay, so i'd rather buy it from a good vendor

Eh, I'd rather not. I know some people there, and I'm content with that. :shhh:

Nelsons91AWD - If you are satisfied with the size of that core, then it seems to be a good deal and a nice looking kit. But if you have any second thought about thesize, then I would say it would be smart to invest the extra $125 for a nice SlowBoy/ Kinetic FMIC kit like in post #3. :thumb:

any idea what kinda flow they're rated upto?

i'm looking for a hefty FMIC to mate to a T3/T04b.. so i'm thinking ~900CFM

I wish I knew, but I honestly dont. This is the second FMIC I've had on this car, and I love it (compared to my old GReddy 24V). I'm sure it can handle a T3/T4 set-up. I would recommend giving SlowBoy a call and asking them. 724-349-8417

quoted from SlowBoy's site: "Our core, measuring 24" long, 12" high and 3.5" wide, will cool anything you’d like to throw at it. It also uses the shortest pipe routing of any we’ve seen. "

Here's another pic. I like how they even include a stainless 2.5" throttle body elbow.

The "best" intercooler kit for a 2G may be this one:
http://dvdtfab.com/2g_intercooler_kit.htm

It's more expensive than the two being discussed above, however. But those end tanks are just kickass. And it uses a Spearco core- I think I may be shelling out the extra bucks to get one, even though you have to lose the fogs.
It doesnt seem worth it to pay $300 more for pretty entanks when you have an OEM bumper. Your 2Gb bumper will hide the endtanks on most large FMIC's esp. that one because it is slightly longer than the majority. It is nice looking though... :thumb:

I don't give a rip about how it looks. It IS all about function, and this one should offer a smoother airflow than any sheet metal endtank design out there.
With all do respect, the intercooler itself is a huge restriction to flow. Slightly rounder, cast, $300 endtanks are not going to make any noticable difference at all. They are shaped pretty and polished and that is why they cost $300 more.

not much a fan of that core either

Agreed, which is why I'd prefer end tanks that are designed to use the entire core, such as this DV/DT one. Most ICs you see have inlets and outlets way at the bottom of some mondo-tall core, and the vast majority of the airflow goes right through the bottom between them leaving most of the core practically unused. The Slowboy kit also at least has inlets and outlets on opposite sides of the core (one at the bottom, one at the top), which is better, IMO. Those squarish end tanks, though, can't be good for flow, can they?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this point, which is cool. But it seems like this design would yield better results, and according to their test data it does.

They're probably more because they're cast, not welded. The polishing is usually extra, but he's having a special right now and throwing it in for free.

Sorry for coming across like a turd; I'm not trying to be. Mature, healthy discussion is a good thing. And any of these FMIC kits is an order of magnitude better than the stock SMIC, that's for sure.

that looks just like the ebay one...i woudlnt' spend that much money on such a small core

LOL not even close to a junk ebay core! And small? it fills the entire bumper! I dont know which one you are looking at.
