Does anyone read the rules these days?:ohdamn:

He isn't asking about buying a turbo car, he's asking about what he can do to modify the car he has. So telling him to sell this car and buy a turbo car, isn't much help... just saying.

I've always wondered if the 4g63 guys have a national "lets go in the 420a section" day. The sad thing is all we can say is read the rules because as soon as we start on the 4g63 vs 420a we are violating the rules as well

Nitrous, end of thread.

+1 Although it isn't really a bolt on and type of thing, nitrous is your best bang for your buck. For 1000 dollars you can had a proper nitrous setup with the fuel pressure safety switch, digital tps actuator, bottle heater and all! I ran nitrous for a while and it is by far my favorite mod that I have done. Yes it is unfortunate that you have to refill the bottle but at the end of the day when you turn the switch off, your problems go away. Its just like driving your car with out any go fast parts, no extra wear, no decrease in gas mileage, etc. Nitrous also makes the most tq out of any other type of forced induction. A 50 shot on a NA car is a waste of time imo(i did it, not much there), a 75 shot(now your starting to feel it), 100 shot(well I don't expect it to last too long on a stock bottom end) My recommendation is run a 75 shot and get some way to tune it, put it on a dyno and tune the fuel jets that come with the nitrous kits. Most "75 shot" pills are tuned a little rich from the get go so if you get on it and your afr's are in the 10's while spraying you can get a few more ponies out of it by just leaning it out a bit. So nutshell, while its not really a bolt on and will do better with other "breather" mods, nitrous is a hell of a good way to spend your money to make a fun dependable car. Just be warned if you are an idiot you can/will blow your motor from nitrous as well, so just be warned.:hellyeah:

It's good thing that this "sell it and buy a 4g63 turbo instead" option is reminded for DSM newbies. It might save somebody a lot of time and money to say how things are when we are thinking about them realistically. The thing I don't get is why these 4g63 guys have to see this as the only way to heaven and happiness.

Solution I'd propose:

-Do basic maintenance (oil, oil filter, plugs, plug wires, check brakes, do compression test ETC) - from $100 to awholelotta$$$, depending on what condition the car is in
-Buy a 2.5" catback (cheap eBay one or one off a 2g GST) - $200 max
-Save money for a Walbro 255, 12:1 FMU and cheap turbo kit
-When this is done, save money for a proper turbo meanwhile you hope that your chinese eBay sh*t lasts long enough :D
-When done sell your eBay t3/t4 to some Honda kid and do your timing belt+water pump.

Run 6-8psi and you should be looking at near 200whp I guess (turbo guys can tell more specifically). That's a good number for a fwd car. If you want more, then you'll have to be ready to throw in couple of g's in order to do it reliably.

If going turbo doesn't suit you, spend the rest on:
-Header (usually for sale in classifieds, $50ish or below)
-Bigger TB (57mm one can be found from eBay, $150)
-Get an UDP ($50 plus new belts)
-AEM CAI or similar ($150-200 if a good deal is found on AEM, copies are way below $100)
-Depending on the amount of time and tuning you are ready to spend, a Megasquirt (lot of time & money required to get it tuned properly) or an AF/X ECU (5min pnp installation, tunes itself, but you might have to wait for one to arrive even months). $300-$700 depending on which one and used or new.

Modifying a jeep 4.0L tb is a more cost effective solution, if you want a larger tb.

Just an FYI although most of you might know. I found that cimotorsports.net dose a TB bore to 55mm for like 69 bucks or you can buy one for like 120 already done...

screw the 55, make sure to get you have the shaft bore (i think thats what it is called) 57mm ftw

My jeep tb cost me 40 bucks, and about 2 hours of downtime (and a freaky ride home) and its larger than 55mm

imo, we need to stop this whole common thing of 55 vs 57 vs 60, i think the only two viable options are really the 57 and 60, or 65 if your bullet :p

It doesn't matter how much air you can let into the plenum if it can't be utilized. For an NA build, the TB should be one of the LAST things thought about for real power gains. Make the engine itself breathe better before you go trying to dump more air in. All it really does for an unbuilt NA is bog out the bottom end. It will net you 1-2 wtq at top end, though.

For a turbo, though.....The better the system breaths from the turbo on, the better performance you'll have.

Let the Haters hate, guys. All will eventually be put to rest....

I think its annoying as hell. When i had my RS all I ever heard was "Just buy a turbo DSM" and even though that is good advice I can't stress enough how annoying it was to hear over and over again. I didn't have the option of selling my car and finding a turbo DSM and I'm sure i'm not the only one. Just answer his question, telling him to get a 4g63 isn't helping anyone out

Build it how you want it. Plain and simple. Get your information where you feel comfortible getting it. I have been lurking on several sites and these guy here have a wealth of good knowlage and experience.

As far as the "sell it buy another" arguement goes, it is one that has gone on for decades spanning all car types. Which really takes away from what being a "gear head/ car enthusiast" really means. Enjoy what you are doing, make it yours and make it different. I have a 67 chevelle and a 1993 300zx twin turbo 2+2. The car didnt start it's life as a 2+2 turbo 5 speed car, it was an auto n/a car. But I just happen to like the body lines of the 2+2 better than the 2 seater, so I made the swap. Yeah the swap was hard work, yeah it was expensive, but I ENJOYED doing it. I built it myself ( minus a few mesage board helpers :D ), and now I have a really nice Honda eater :p.

I plan on building my RS with a kit. Actually I plan on doing alot to it. I mean, comparatively speaking the cost is nothing compared to my Z32. The parts prices for those things is stupid. But I'm getting ready for a wild ride learning to build this 2g, and as usual, I'm going to enjoy every last second of it! :D

Hey guys,

This is a great thread, but we don't need to turn it into another 420A/4G63 debate. Let's stay on topic!
