I'm running a small 16g on my 91 gsx. I have intercooler piping, intake pipe, 255 fuel pump, mbc, boost gauge, and 3inch exhaust no cat. I'm running on low boost for now at 10 psi. Ever since I put on air flow mods, uicp and intake pipe, I get fuel cut, but not until like 5500 rpms, right before redline. Only at WOT. I don't have any boost leaks. Will changing my fuel filter fix this? Any other suggestions to take a look at it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Yes I did, actually twice, it is NOT a boost leak! It is definitely fuel cut the air keeps flowin but the fuel just straight cuts out for a second and then comes back. It is so frusterating!

Fuel Cut has nothing to do with your fuel filter, pump, or injectors. Fuel Cut has to do with you Mas reading. Too much airflow will make the ecu think there is something wrong with the factory wastegate accuator. Its like a precaution the factory installed on the ecu's to protect the car from detonation if there is a malfunction with the wastegate and crazy boost pressure starts occuring. The only way to solve a fuel cut problem is to purchase some sort of fuel computer (S-AFC) To trick the ecu into thinking it is recieving a lower reading from your Mas.

Keep in mind that he says he's running 10psi

hmm, once upon a time I thought I was gettin fuel cut and it was bad plug wires... Could this be it?
Damn plug wires!! I had the same thing happen to me. But hey...it was good for talking the wife into letting me buy more mods. :thumb:

Haha, yes dear, I need a new turbo, new tires, and of course new plug wires!

My wires seem to be fine, I'm not sure. New plugs just done. I just put on a new fuel filter, didn't change shit, man was that a pain. So you guys think it's afc huh? What if I put on a 2g mas and messed with the fuel level. Could that work or do I need something like a maft or safc? Could it be my fpr? The car goes strong then backfires stops abruptly and then starts boosting again? It only haults for like a 1/4 of a second

Ya, try the 2g mas. If you want to spend the extra money, go buy a maft setup.

As someone already said, fuelcut is simply airflow-based, so it seems hard to believe you are hitting it at only 10 psi. Most people can go >15 psi before hitting it. Have you logged it? If it IS fuelcut, you will see the injector pw go to zero, because the ECU cuts fuel and spark both. I had an issue with my one GVR-4 that *felt* like fuelcut, but it turned out to be a broken power wire to the coilpack. Everytime I'd get on it, the connection would flake out and cut spark. If it IS fuelcut, there's only 2 ways around it:
1) fool the ECU into thinking there is less air coming in. A 2g/3G MAS would do that, but you will also need larger injectors, otherwise you'll be way too lean. Also, be aware that this will give you ALOT more timing, because the ECU also uses airflow to decide what timing maps to use. An AFC would help, but you can only lean it out so far before you get yourself into trouble.
2) get a chip that has the fuelcut raised or removed. :thumb:

Check for boost leaks again. Also you can hack your MAS if want an easy fix for fuel cut. Another way is to install injectors and lean it out with an S-AFC.

check your PVC valve mine was stuck open and I was venting my breather hose. If you are venting your breather hose hook it back up and check/clean the PCV.

is it cold where your at? the weather has alot to do with that as well.

That's what happens to me - I rarely get fuel cut - but if I do it's always in the cold season and only at WOT - wee bit past redline.

Warmer season - never a problem.

I am running pretty much same thing - (boost at 18) 16G, 3" Turbo back - 550, FMIC so on.

I would just remove the oval (lower) honeycomb out of the MAS and call it a day..I ran 16psi from a evo3 16g for months on my gsx and never had a problem

i changed my plug wires to some others i had yesterday after i read this thread. I still get the problem but.. not as bad. im in wisconsin so it's cold here but... i dunno. it's kind of annoying :-/
