Before I buy a SAFC

I have a 91 talon, TSI AWD

new motor with 9.0 to 1 CR, wiesco pistons eagle rods... I am also supporting a small 16G turbo, 2g mani 3in turboback and a HKS wastegate.

I am running stock boost levals now... My questions is with a SAFC, as long as I follow the other upgrades (injectors, fuel pump, data logger wideband) How high could I possibly run on pump gas?

I am afraid of the 1g timing, along with high compressions pistons, and how the SAFC tricks the ecu into thinking less air is coming in, making the ECU want to go timing happy.

Are there ways to limit the stock 1g timing without a fancy MSD ignition controler (keyword, cheap)

Am I just dump, adn should i invest the money into a EPROM ECU and DSM Link? or could a SAFC get me by for now...

Goals for this summer would like to be mid to low 12's

12's in a N/t is going to be fun... I was reading about his yesterday and well the cheap bolt ons are what give most power i.e. intake/exhaust.

I think the fastest N/t is in the 13's

To the OP I think you will have timing issues with that compression. I had timing issues when I went to just 8.5:1 compression. Now I run e85 and have ecmlink its a lot easier. If I was you I would go with no larger than 550's and pull timing back to around 0* base to help with the timing if you get knock.

Your best bet is to get ecmlink or something so you can actually control the timing.

With the higher compression your probably gonna need a way to control timing, you might as well just get DSM link. The only reason I have an SAFC on my car is because I got one for $50, soon as I got the cash I'm getting an EPROM ECU and DSM link. In fact since you have a 1G you wouldn't even need an EPROM ECU, you can put V3 on a non EPROM 1g now. They will do a EPROM conversion to your old ECU for $165.

The SAFC will control +50/-50% of your stock injector size. 550's would be ok, I wouldnt go past the 650's personally.

I'm assuming you're gutting the car and possibly adding nitrous to hit those 12's right? :thumb:

Thanks for the replies, guess I will start saving!!!

Also... i am not trying to go 12's in the NT... that is the "girls" car now LOL

I am talking about my Talon Turbo AWD like i posted in the first thread

Pass on the SAFC and spend the money getting an EPROM ecu. Then, if you can't afford Link, look into a Moate's Ostrich EPROM Emulator and use TunerPRO to tune it with. With 9.0:1 compression I can guarantee that you will run into timing issues trying to compensate for injectors with an AFC.
