Looks like the head gasket blew so the car will not be for sale because I don't want to sell junk to no one. So this is what I will most likely do pull the head and see what is going on and if it is any good have it rebuilt and see if the bottom end is good and have that rebuilt too but it looks like it will be down for maybe another year because I will most likly do I full rebuild. I will get my van runing good so I can sell that and use some of the money on the rebuild. After I will get a stock 2gb front end and take off the 2ga. I have alot of work to do.:sosad: Any ideas on the build?

I am now going to start working on the dsm now that the weather is starting to get cooler.
I am going to pull the head first so here are the pics of a fresh start and I will post updates and pics each day as I work on the dsm. Maybe it will be ready by xmas and that would be my gift to myself.;)

How it looks now.

i must say this was a surprisingly good thread to read. I can understand how you feel about your 420a always breaking down and debating whether or not to sell it -- mine is the same way. I say keep it though man, dont listen to anyone telling you to get rid of it not after all this work. Fix it up right and keep it as a NA daily driver. Once you fix it up right it will be reliable again. And it already looks pretty cool, just get rid of those side skirts -- i say keep the 2ga look (which i am a huge fan of!!) and just find some 2ga skirts.

good luck!

Here we go again about to pull the head off soon as I drain all the fluids.
I wonder what the damage is.:hmm:

I changed out the transmission gasket and filter.

Who ever was wondering how to change out the filter n/t atx.

There are 14 bolts on the bottom of the trans pan. Loosen them a few turns but do not remove.

Put a pan under it and crack the pan. Let it drain for a while, then remove the pan.

The filter is right there after you get the pan off. Pull it off, put new one on. Then put a new gasket and reinstall the pan. Torque specifications 168inch-lbs

The filter kit comes with a new gasket.

Next up I will drain the oil and pull off the oil pan see what's inside of it and go from there. I am going to do a full rebuild so this will be the start of my motor build up thread.

Well I am an idiot why did I not notice this the reason the transmission was not shifting right is because it was loseing fluid out the pan it has a small crack, now I have to pull the pan again and buy and install a new one and do the work all over again.:ohdamn:

Today I just got my transmission pan in from Gary at Mitsubishi Graveyard, thanks man. I will install that some time this week. I bought me a 4-1 header and down pipe it should be here in a week maybe.

Turns out I got coolant in the oil so now I have to pull the head. I need to get new mounts bunch of work to be done.:sosad: I got my header and down pipe in the other night it looks nice. I guess I'll just cut this belt off and save me a headache for now. I already took off the exhaust manifold next I'll drain out the oil and coolant and pull off as much parts as I can off.

Soooo?!?!?!

I've read this entire thread and I'm sobbing. Thank god my N/T is good (for now). I had to do a LOT of shit too, but it was worth it.

Meanwhile, someone should write a guide to good maintenance of a 420A please! I feel so helpless because I'm expecting it to mess up anytime now, haha, I'm paranoid and a noob with engine work. :(

420A s are like any other 4 cylinder. There's not really anything THAT specific to just 420s!
If you have any general engine questions, feel free to pm me!

ED...Why the F*** would you heat wrap your manifold and downpipe? You know that tends to crack manifolds right..It traps heat in there, causing cracks in the welds and such..I would have got them ceramic coated..Ceramic is awsome for contollling under hood temps..I can almost touch my manifold after running her hot...I wouldn't suggest it but you can put your hand right up to the manifold without a problem..And I coated it at home for like 10 bux...If you send it out to be coated your looking at 50 bux +, but they coat it inside and out..Look into it please..

This guy ran it like that for a year with no problem. So I guess we'll see if it will be ok.
I've been busy so I have not done much to the car but I will work on it soon. Got my vc coated a while back but never posted a pic of it, I will install after I rebuild the head.
