I just bought a 1g awd but it has this weird problem. Its been sitting for nine years , but I got it to start and run fine.Problem is While its running I can put it in any gear and take my foot off the clutch and I get nothing.Clutch problems?

Im going to check for fluid and bleed the system but it should still do something if the clutch was ok.

its possible the clutch slave cylinder is froze ive had one stick on me on a older car that sat for a lot of years, also try and bleed the system

bingo you beat me to it. your clutch is stuck open... pretty common for a car that's been sitting for years

Heres a curve ball would the clutch still be stuck out if I can put it in gear without the clutch while the car is running. You guys had me all happy that I could drive it LOL

More than likely, the piston in the slave cylinder stuck the first time you hit the clutch pedal. Unbolt the slave from the tranny and see if the fork snaps back violently. If so, replace the slave cylinder, but flush the master and line before bolting up the new slave.

I don't know if I said this or not but the reason its been sitting is because of the not move problem so it started doing it before it was parked.

What? What's been holding it "open" all these years? WTF

No I wasn't saying it's been held open all these years... as soon as you depress the clutch, the corrosion and rust hold it open... I've experienced it at least twice while trying to restore cars.

But apparently he says it was doing that before he parked it

??

to the OP: Why don't you take it apart?... I don't think we can help until you do

I had the clutch go out on my 90 and did the same thing. I could actually move it from gear to gear while running and not pressing the pedal in.

I want to take it apart, but i also want to replace the slave first because im to much of a ####y to pull my first tranny ROFL

I'd say that it is most likely your clutch. My friends car was the same way on his evo. We pulled the tranny and man... I've never seen a more distroyd clutch in my life. Most likely all the friction material on the disc is gone and when you pull the tranny you'll see a bunch of nasty lookin hairlike particles in the bellhousing. Don't be afraid. Pullin trannys on 1g's is cake.

Well the clutch isnt going to go bad from sitting it. Its going to be a problem in your hydraulic system. I would go ahead and flush the whole system, install a new master cylinder, slave cylinder, and braided line in place of the rubber flex line. Then pour in your new fluid, bleed it, and roll on.

Its VERY possible for your clutch to fall apart from sitting for awhile, but rare that it doesnt at least pretend to work for awhile, or lunge a good bit then fall apart.

i am willing to bet you have a hydrolic issue that needs to be worked out so you get full movement in the slave. The slave is quite sensitive to corrosion as its aluminum, and the first time you kicked the clutch in, you pushed the piston in the bore over a load of crud that it bound up on. Take the slave off and start from there.

Be careful not lose a finger or something. You really only have a couple of possibilities.
1. fragged clutch plate.
2. stuck hydraulics or shift fork.

Is there any kind of noise when running?

EDIT: Is the clutch pedal stiff, spongy, or not responsive?

when the clutch was destroyed in my 1g before i bought it the kid could shift through the gears without using the pedal...when the tranny was dropped it looked like someone shaved a cat and put it in the bellhousing LOL it was metal to metal to say the least. thats what he got for trying to drop it at redline on a stock clutch

It feels like a normal dsm pedal.

Man... the way you started this out, you implied that you couldn't figure it out because it had been sitting for so long...

but it went before the car was sitting?

Dude, get over it... With the symptoms you describe your clutch disc is worn out and you need a new one

This man speaks the exact truth.I pulled the trans and one side of the clutch was gone.Put a new one in got the trans back in and she drives!!!!. This was my first ever clutch install so im glad it worked out.
