I just ordered a set of the Brian Crower 272's and I was wondering if the intake cam has to be drilled and tapped to fit the 97-99 Cam Angle Sensor (CAS)? I emailed Brian Crower and asked him about this and his reponse was:

Actually, the cams are already set up for both applications…so you are good to go.

Thank you,

Brian

Subject: 272 Cams on 2g 4g63

I just purchased a set of your 272 cams for the 4g63 and I was wondering if you could tell me what size, depth, and thread pitch I have to tap the intake cam to fit the 97-99 Cam Angle Sensor? I have a spare head with no cams that I am building to put on my 98 eclipse GST to reduce down time.

Thanks,

-Jorge

Thanks for the Help.

I installed the 280's in my 6 bolt and it was a straight drop in and I installed the 272's in a friends 96 (I think) with the CAS on the drivers side and I did not need to do anything to the cams, just drop them in.
All BC bumpsticks...
Did I mention that BC Cams kick ass?

I know that they are a direct fit for 90-96 but they shouldnt be for 97-99 because the the CAS has a piece that bolts to the intake cam and 95-96 have the CAS under the intake Cam Gear.

Alright Guys, I have a pair of BC 272's sitting right in front me and the intake cam came pre-tapped for the 97-99 stlye CAS. There you guys go, a definite answer. :rocks:

This concerns me a little. I ordered some from Import Evolution, and was told the intake cam was not already tapped. Import Evolution charged me $40 to tap it. I think I'm gonna give them a call..

Are all these vendors have these cams back in stock again. I was looking and everywhere said there is a 2 month wait.

Well that sucks WTF .

Some vendors have them but they are selling them at almost regular price.

Thank god I bought my cams nice and early, I had feared they would be in back order soon so I bought mine. 280's.

I'm not sure how most vendors do it, but I bought mine from XXX vendor but the cams were shipped directly from Brian Crower down here in CA so i got them like in 3 days  .

Yea man def look into that and let us know what they said. :thumb:

OK, I took a look at my BC 272's and it appears that they do come pre-tapped for the 97-99 style Cam Angle Sensor, so they are a direct bolt on for all DSM's. I cant wait to get them on and listed to my engine rumble.

Shane2GSX, I would definitely call them up and get a refund for the extra 40 you paid.

I love that Brian Crower does that. I don't understand why some of the others companies don't do that  . Having to do something like tap such an expensive part with a chance of messing it up should be unnecessary IMO. Oh well, BC does it the right way and that's why he got my business :thumb: .

Got in touch with them, apparently some type of miscommunication. He told an part time assistant to do it that night, and the assistant didn't let him know it was already done. So I got charged $40 anyway..

But they're refunding my $40..
