battery terminal replacement

about a month ago, the battery light came on in our '96 GS - I was right by LesSchwab, so I took it there and they tested the system - alternator was fine, but battery was toast. So, I replaced the battery. But, after a short while the battery light started coming on again. Anyhow, I found that the terminals are not tight enough - even with the bolts as tight as they can go. I am assuming I am going to have to replace them (stretched out?). I purchased a replacement from the auto parts store, but before I had removed the old one, I realized that the new one wouldn't work - that the gauge of wire was smaller than most. It has the one larger gauge wire connected to the terminal, but also has a cluster of white wires (looks stock) that are on eye-connectors that go to the bolt of the terminal. Anyhow, that single wire is smaller than most I've seen - do I need to 'special order' terminals for this?

I had the same problem I replaced mine last month
yes those wires are stock, the terminals i bought at oreillys work great even though i had
to tighten it the max i could, anyways the new terminal had 2 bolts i just loosened both and slipped
in the wires on one of the bolts then tighten the bolts back up....fyi the terminals i bought had alot of paint on them making
it hard to jump the car or to get a good read off the battery

Go to a parts store like autozone or advance auto where they offer free battery testing. Have them test your battery but while they're doing it point out that your battery terminals are loose. When they realize they can't be tightened ask if they can pick you out replacements. The only reason I'm suggesting this is because it sounds like you're having a hard time and this is a way to have someone check and find the correct ones for you for free. Sounds kinda sly but it will work
