i have a 90 gst and i wanna reloacte the battery but ii dont want to put it too far from the original spot and increase the resisitance. or if i do put it further would it help to increase the guage of the wire i use. also will this effect the life of my alternator or battery

If done properly it will not hurt the life of your battery or alternator. I know there is a kit somewhere on the net for it, but I can't remeber right now. Where are you thinking of putting that isn't to far from the orginal spot. Theres not a whole lot of options that close unless you bolt it to the passanger floor?

Most reoocation kits are in the TRUCK.. which is a nice place along with where mine is at NOW. with a cut out switch.. just as ong as you dont get runk and forget to hit hte switch.. then you OK

You can relocate the battery to the trunk with ease. They make whole kits for it, or you can buy it by pieces but keeps a few things in mind. First, if you are going to run at the track, you will need an NHRA approved battery box, which also has a line going to anywhere outside of the car to act as a vent for the battery box.

You will also need a cutout switch mounted somehwere easily accessible on the outside of the car, usually put underneath the bumper, on the bumper, or behind the license plate. You can buy some 0 gauge wire for pretty cheap and just run that either through the cabin or underneath the car in a safe spot, such as next to the brake lines since those have to be in a safe spot or you're screwed :D

Good luck! Overall relocating will cost you ~150 bucks for all the necessary parts, cheaper if you find little sales here and there, and will probably take about an hour.

Well, the switch is like this: Say you're running down the track, and something happens like you crash or car catches fire or whatever. Well, normally the track officials would pull the cable on the battery if it was under the hood, but if its relocated it may not be easy to get to especially if it's in a box, so a switch is mounted outside that cuts the power from the battery therefore cutting power to the whole car. Just a safety thing.

The vent is for regulation purposes, the battery creates fumes that can be harmful I believe so in order to get those fumes out of the cabin a tube just has to be ran from the box to the atmosphere outside of the car.

which means you'll only be able to drive as well as the guy in the truck, or risk losing power. Extension cords just don't get it.

Aren't there already about lebenty bazillion battery relocation threads already? WTF

Such as, this one in the Tech Library?
