Base tuning for a 2.3?

My set up is almost complete and I just wanted to know if I needed to get it tuned. I have asked around local shops like TT if I needed to, and they said no. On the other hand, my engine builder, FB has said I should at least bump up my fuel pressure. My set-up is as follows:

FB race ported head
Manley 1mm oversized valves
Manley springs and retainers
Manley H-Beam rods
Manley 8:5:1 pistons stock bore
2.4 Crank
Magnus intake manifold
full 3" turboback exhaust
2g maf
Mitsu 18g

Everything else is stock. After motor gets broken in, all my other parts will be put in. Your feed backs and information are greatly appreciated.
 
If you're on stock injectors and don't have a tuning device, you'll need to at least log and look for knock. Since your compression ratio has gone up from 7.8:1 to 8.5:1, you'll likely fight a few knock issues since the 1G timing maps are much more aggressive than the 2G's. I would recommend DSM Link so that you can work around this once you add larger injectors and keep the timing to 2G specs. You can play with a bit of fuel pressure, but drowning the motor in fuel to stave off knock or make your injectors "larger" really isn't the solution.

I'm guessing in your opinion, I should get something to check if everything is fine? Rather than going link I am going to get the AEM EMS. But with larger air flow with the 2.3 and the over-sized valves, wouldn't I need to compensate with more fuel for the larger air flow?
 
Your 1mm valves aren't going to change airflow that much unless you add cams at which point I would agree that the motor will naturally demand more fuel as a result of the increased airflow. As it sits it will demand more than stock, but cams will amplify this even more.

I would add your injectors, make sure the fuel system is up to snuff and then log it and see what it shows you for knock. I don't tune with an EMS, however the tuner who sets up the maps for you should know to keep knock counts to a bare minimum on pump gas. You'll probably need a bit more fuel pressure, but as I said, don't drown the motor in fuel as a bandaid. Adding a few psi is fine, just don't go overboard.

This is really a moot issue until you get the car on the dyno and have the EMS properly set up.
