I've come along way from my first emissions test. The gsx is barely passing emissions as of today. Changed fuel injectors, o2 sensors, new exhaust gasket, new plugs, fresh oil change. Sea foamed, new cat converter and no boost leaks. I've added acetone but to no luck. The guy recommend trying Denatured alcohol, so i pour half a quart in half a tank of gas, but i have not run the car thru the gas yet as i do not have a tag and cant be driving 100 miles around town, LOL. So what have you guys done to pass emissions?

Before and todays test :notgood::notgood:

it looks like your emissions testing is alot worse than mine we have a gas cap and a visual inspection where i live and thats it but if all the emissions equipment is on the car im a little confused as too why it wont pass myself maybe its the tune on the car?

Has the car been sitting for a while? Do you ever romp on it? If you only take 5-10 minute drives and barely putt around, a lot of times an "Italian tune-up" can make a big difference. Also right before your smog test, run it fairly hard; that will help get the cat hotter and more effective. Hope that helps you out some, smog testing is a bi***.

Everything on the car is stock besides a little 3" air filter cone style. Its just border line for passing. The car has been sitting because i cant drive it, but ill try the Italian style tomorrow and see if that helps. from my house to emissions is about 10 miles down highway so maybe its not getting hot enough? Also how long does it take for the car to learn the fuel curve after taking the battery out thus resetting the system ? Thanks

Yeah, I doubt things are really getting warm enough. Take a spirited drive through the hills, or on the highway for maybe 30 minutes. Basically just have fun with it for a little :thumb: And if you can, make an appointment so the smog tech doesn't have your car sitting cooling down for 30 minutes in the parking lot. 2G's may be different but my 1G took a few drive cycles to relearn everything.

has anyone tried heet iso, or denatured alcohol? Also would running 110 octane race gas help? here it's 12$ a gallon

its not gonna help, judging by your hc and co numbers on the top readout you have a rich misfire. do you have a wideband? or some way to check ecu pids. hc is your misfire indicator, any time that unburned fuel enters the exhaust hc readings go up. co is your rich lean indicator, low being lean and high being rich

now in your recent reading on the bottom you seem to have high hc at idle, which would lead me to believe you may have a small misfire. have you checked your coils or wires? , and at 2500 your running a little rich as indicated by your co reading.

The only thing that's not correct for the car is that on the 3rd cylinder the spark plug wire was broke so i found an old wire from a van that fit, But could that be the problem if the ohms are wrong?

Yes it very well could be the problem, I would change it. If you can get me the o2 readings, Nox and Co2 readings I can give you more info about your car. Nice thing about emissions gasses is they hint to other problems with the vehicle and can help find rich/lean conditions , stuck on emissions devices like egr, evap, air injection. Misfires including type like lean misfire, rich misfire, dilution misfire, mechanical misfire, ignition etc.

they do the idle test then the 2500 rpm test, so just go in and add or remove some fuel right there, i have absolutley no emissions equipment and i pass emmisons. i do have a cat that i throw on it when i go though. so ya either continue with making the car overall better like you have been IE. plugs, wires etc. also make sure you dont have any vacuum/boost leaks as they will really throw off a tune or EMiss. test. Good luck!!

which it looks like your running rich alot of the time judging by the afr/Co2 readings at those rpms, so i would really look at vaccum hoses and intake side gaskets, IE turbo outlet gasket, TB gaskets, intake gasket and such.

Where do you see afr or o2 readings in his post. The car is running rich at 2500 as indicated by the amount of co it's producing and had a slight misfire at idle which is most likely due to the ignition system.

Added denature alcohol, 4 gallons premium to 1 quart of denatured. Results were worse. Only thing that got better was the co% at idle dropped down. This is a list of things that i can only tell that are wrong atm.
There are only 3 bolts holding the turbo to the header, 1 broke off. Spark plug wire is the wrong one, The little nipple on the stock bov broke off so the tube is shoved into the bov. Last of all the stock afr seems broken? i tried blowing air thru the port that goes into the fuel rail and nothing happened. it may be stuck.

This is after results of denatured alcohol.

It will be very challenging, I'd imagine, to pass with only 3 manifold to turbo bolts.

Let alone the boost leak that is your bov repair.

Could i just disconnect the waste gate actuator arm and kill the boost, because 2500rpm is getting close for the turbo to kick on, maybe thats why the results are running rich ?

Why not just fix your huge boost leaks instead?

Well the bov doesn't leak till 7psi and up. I doubt 2500 rpm will make boost like that. I also noticed that my sparkplug wiring is done up for a 97+ eclipse, it goes 4-1-2-3 left to right on the coil. would that mean my motor is a 97 and not a 95?

You could try that. I would look Into what is causing it to misfire and run rich, what are your mods?

I just checked the plugs, Cylinders 4,2,1 have a perfect looking plug. Cylinder 3, the one with the wrong wire, looks fouled out pretty bad. Think that its the wire now ?

4-2-1 look like this , and 3 looks like the bottom picture

Yeah it's not sparking properly this is the source of your misfire at idle ,and high hc readings replace the wire. Now look into the fuel system for your rich at 2500 condition

I'll go ahead and go up to advance auto and buy a complete set of wires, and plugs. I'm thinking its rich because i sea foamed it, put fuel system cleaner, denatured alcohol so all thats making it run rich, ill just have to run a fresh tank of gas thru the lines to clean it out. Hopefully this will be the end of my cause, if not dirty emissions here i come!
