I've come along way from my first emissions test. The gsx is barely passing emissions as of today. Changed fuel injectors, o2 sensors, new exhaust gasket, new plugs, fresh oil change. Sea foamed, new cat converter and no boost leaks. I've added acetone but to no luck. The guy recommend trying Denatured alcohol, so i pour half a quart in half a tank of gas, but i have not run the car thru the gas yet as i do not have a tag and cant be driving 100 miles around town, LOL. So what have you guys done to pass emissions?

Before and todays test :notgood::notgood:

You really should look into the reason your running rich. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the car and disconnect the regulator if pressure doesn't go up then it's shot which could be a possible reason your running so rich. Cleaning up your ignition system is more than likely only going to fix your high hc reading(your misfire at idle)

Sorry for double post

Sorry for double post

I was actually considering that my fpr stock might be bad. when i put new injectors i tried testing the fpr by sucking air thru the tube thats supposed to go to vaccum, which at idle is little vaccum if any, and nothing happened, the valve seemed stuck. How do i actually go ablut testjng the regulator? vaccum gauge? Where do i plug up to to check? and if it is indeed bad couls that be the soul reason for running rich? thanks

its not gonna help, judging by your hc and co numbers on the top readout you have a rich misfire. do you have a wideband? or some way to check ecu pids. hc is your misfire indicator, any time that unburned fuel enters the exhaust hc readings go up. co is your rich lean indicator, low being lean and high being rich

now in your recent reading on the bottom you seem to have high hc at idle, which would lead me to believe you may have a small misfire. have you checked your coils or wires? , and at 2500 your running a little rich as indicated by your co reading.

Seee i wasnt BSing!!! you can tell but i shouldnt have used afr as my refrence word. sorry good luck though, and i thought high numbers usualy ment lean from hot gasses?

Yes it very well could be the problem. To test it. Put a fuel pressure gauge in the car, either t into a Schrader valve if you have one or put an adapter Into the fuel line going to the rail and put a Schrader valve in there so you can connect the gauge. Start the car and watch your fuel pressure, disconnect the vacuum line from the regulator and the pressure should go up.

And hesh the point I was making is that he is actually running rich not lean, I'm actually in a class where we've Been doing emissions gas analyzations all week so this is pretty fresh in my mind, for future reference here's how emissions gasses are read

Hc- max normal 100ppm at idle
1000ppm at wot

misfire indicator indicates unburned fuel in exhaust

Co- rich lean indicator
High= rich
Low = lean
Stoich should be roughly .5%

Co2 - efficiency indicator 12-17% good running engine burning fuel correctly

Nox- this is produced when temps are high in the cylinder so a during a lean condition this would go up.
Max good - 50ppm at idle

O2 - this is not a good diagnostic tool as exhaust leaks may affect this however it should go up with misfires due to the air fuel mixture not being properly burned

Hope this helps

Ok Guys i have a new set of wires on, And 15 minutes later , The CEL pops up and the car started running like crap. The car will only start if i put my foot on the gas pedal, The second i let off it dies. Clueless till i go up to auto zone tomorrow. Any ideas?!

Would i maybe need to reset the ecu since its been running with the bad spark plug wire, and now that it has the right ones its running different ?

What is the check engine light that's on?
Reset the ecu and see if it fixes it. If not let me know what the code is.

Definitely find out what the code is and double check your firing order. My car will run with the wires all mixed up, but I have a friend who's just shuts down like that when he's got his wires mixed up.

What wires did you pick up? It'd be hard to imagine wires so bad that you can't idle.
Post up any more information when you get it.

Passsed today! It was the bad spark plug wires! had to adjust the tps and idle and it passed with flying colors! Thank God !

:hellyeah::hellyeah::hellyeah:

Since i had bought new wires, Looks like the car wanted to run with the old settings with the old wires, so i had to reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery and then ran it for 25 minutes hardd before emissions, And they hooked the sniffer up and it passed in a heart beat. So looks like new injectors, plugs, wires, o2 sensors, cat converter and a oil change will make you pass emissions.!

carbon monoxide should be around .5% so your a little over, but still pretty damn good compared to before, i wouldnt even worry about it honestly. as long as it feels like its driving nice and no complaints. i mean your misfire is completely gone, that was the big issue to begin with.

The only problem im dealing with now is i can turn the car over for 10 seconds and it wont start, but when i put my foot on the gas pedal and start, itll crank up after a few seconds. Feels like im dealing with a carburetor haha.

0 check engine codes. when it hasnt been started in a day it takes even longer to start. Sounds like its a fuel problem?

It's either your fuel pressure regulator or the check valve in the supply line at the tank that's bleeding off pressure and your fuel pump has to rebuild pressure when cranking before it will start
