My ball joints are groaning and creaking so I figured they need to be replaced. I was researching a bit online and found out there is a recall on the 95-99 eclipses for the lower control arms and ball joints. I went to my local dealership and asked them about this and they said there were no OPEN recalls for my vehicle and told me that it would be 600 something dollars to replace them. I told them no way and proceeded to walk out.

I then got home and looked up my car on safercar.gov and found there is a recall for the 98 eclipse for the joints.

I then called the Mitsubishi Corporate office in CA. They also told me that there were no OPEN recalls on my vehicle. I asked them what that meant and they said that if the previous owner would have done the recall service it would have been specified CLOSED. I said that safercar.gov said there was a recall on these vehicles and they informed me that there were no records of recalls for this vehicle and that safercar.gov was incorrect.

Are they not doing the recalls for these vehicles anymore? I will probably just buy them and put them in myself if they won't help me. Anyone have any advice? I smell BS on this.

You are probably mixing two issues: whether there's an open recall for your make/model/year of car and whether it's already been done on your particular car. If both are true, then it all makes sense. There is an open recall on your make/model/year, but it's already been done to your particular car.

I assume that Mitsu Corporate asked for your VIN before answering, yes?
