Balance shafts

Ok. Heard a noise when I started my Talon yesterday that seemed like it was coming from the timing belt area. I took off the top timing cover and something is pushing the timing belt halfway off of the cam gears toward the tire. Im gonna tear it apart tomorrow to see whats going on but my question is while I'm in there a buddy just told me to take the balance shaft belt off instead of doing the stubby shaft elimination kit while leaving the front one in. Will this harm anything just to take the belt off and leave the shafts in place?

Apparently leaving the front shaft in place is OK at best, but you wont get much increased oil pressure.

You cant just cut the belt, because there are two shafts. The stubby shaft goes on the oil pump driven gear.

I highly recommend doing the BSE with the engine out of the car. Its probably quicker to pull the block and then put it back in after.

If you are deleting the shafts, you will also need a new front cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pickup tube gasket (if you choose to remove it from the front cover) and will probably want to port the oil filter housing.

Ill probably just put the belt back on for now. Ill take care of the bse when I do my build. I didnt think you could get away with just removing the belt or a lot more people would have done it. Guess thats what I get for listening to a Honda guy. Thats why I come here. I always get good advice.
