balance shaft seals

OK this might be a bit difficult to explain but ill give it a go. I'm replacing the two balance shaft seals and the crank seal on the oil pump housing. The thing is, they don't seem right in that there seems to be a gap between the bottom of the seal and the cover. If one of you guys had a picture of what they should look like, or explain to me i would be grateful.

If I remember correctly that is normal. If you look at the front of the case, where you press the seal in there is a slope. At the bottom of the slope is where the top of the seal sits when fully seated.
If you look at it from the back side it looks like there is a gap but the seal can only go in so far.
I hope this makes sense....

Im not sure what metal your talking about?
Is this a 7bolt front case?
Did you remove the balance shafts?
If you kept the balance shafts then that would explain why I dont know what your talking about

I believe Eric meant "collar", not color. Behind the front balance shaft sprocket, there is a collar, or spacer, on the shaft before the seal.

Sorry for that, I typed it as i was rushing out to work. I did in fact mean collar
