2G Balance shaft knock?

Just slapped a new head on my 7bolt. Bought the car without the head on. Started it right up and it purrs like a kitten. No misfire at all. But theres this knock. Thats not consistent. It sounds like its coming from up top but the head is swapped with new lifters. If i rev it the knock shifts over the whole engine. But its never consistent. And its on cold start. Balance shaft??

Did you bleed the lifter before installing?

Balance shaft vibration is violent enough to shake the mirrors and rattle the sun roof cover

The oil pump makes a noticeable ticking with the lower cover off

So is it not timed correctly? Sounds like it

I was told that if something wasn't timed correctly then it won't start.

The timing belt yes and you will bend valves. The balance shaft belt can be off and will make things vibrate like crazy And the oil pump will be out of phase but the car will run.

Are they 3g lifters and did you bleed them before install?

Need to check the balance shaft belt! More rev: more vibration

Have you tried using an automotive stethoscope to isolate the noise?

An off balance shaft belt will not make any extra noise. I know because i've had my 180 degrees out. Other than the vibration, there was no noise.

Could be balance shafts... bearing failure.
I have also set my balance shaft and oil pump wrong during timing.... car ran like crap.... sooooo much vibration during acceleration, but no knock.
