balance shaft eliminator kit....

ok so i installed the balace shaft eliminator kit the other day, got it all done and took the car around the block, came back and did a boost leak test and the next thing i know the freeze plug you get with the kit pops off and i have a massive oil leak. I know why it poped out and thats because i got a decent amount of blow by around the rings. Now i installed it the way the vfaq write up says to install it with some jb weld to hold it in. So i want to know if theres a better way to keep it in there. And yes i did let the jb weld dry.

My brother had the same problem. My mechanic fixed it with some jb weld if I remeber right. Maybe didnt use enough, not sure.

The ones w/ the OEM rubberish plug do. According to VFAQ you use RTV to seal those & JB-Weld for kits using freeze plugs.

OK, you don't just put it in there and call it done, i got this stuff from permatex called indian head its a sealant, and it seals and holds it in there and works fine, no complaints frmo me after couple hundred miles.

well i did use jb weld its possible i didnt use enough, where did you purchase the indian head because i dont think you can order it directly from permatex. Does Napa, Kragen, or Auto Zone carry it?

How long did you let the JB-Weld set for? It is possible you didn't use enough. For example, with my kit I was able to insert the freeze plug without any effort. So I made sure to use plenty of weld to fill in every space in between, behind, & in front of the freeze plug.

Thats is. i got mine from a local high end Autop arts store, but they should have it, most liekly NAPA.

your supposed to use rtv and stake the plug.

It works just as well, You Juse have to be careful not to use too much, it can brak off when dry and clog up an oil passage, IT has happened alot before haha.

I couldn't get the freeze plug to stay in securely so I got the rubber one from the dealer. Works like a charm and I think it was less than $5.
