It was 27 degrees F out this morning. I took the car for a 32 mile trip on the highway. The engine temperature would not go above 126 degrees per MMCD and I almost got frostbite.

I am inclined to think this is a bad thermostat. I can't think of much else it could be.

Car runs great otherwise.

Thanks.

Every time that I have had an issue with a car not getting to operational temp it has been due to a bad thermostat. It is easy to replace and inexpensive so I would most definitely start there. It will be obvious if it is stuck open once you remove it.

I agree. Super easy to get to. I pulled the upper radiator hose and coolant was pouring right through the top of it even though the engine was pretty cold. The spring was cocked sideways. I guess the Failsafe thermostats aren't so bad considering the alternative!
