So after replacing fuel filters, spark plugs, fuel solenoid and plug wires I finally discovered my problem. It turned out to be a bad ecu. I bought a new one and the car runs perfectly now.

I opened the ecu up and saw the dreaded leaking caps. I'll upload photos later so everyone can see what to look for. My question is, should I take the core back to advanced auto for $50 or have it rebuilt and ported so I can use dsm link on it?

I'm not sure how much damage the acid has did. At times the car would run.

First off, is it an EPROM? You need one of them to run DSMlink.

Second, find a electronic repair shop and see if they'll give you a free estimate on the repair.

And finally, I have zero idea what you mean "ported" when it's used in reference to an ECU. Don't say that; people might laugh.

Its a non eprom ecu. And I meant to say socketed, not ported. LOL. I was referring to the way they make it so you can plug the serial port wire into the obd port. sorry for the confusion.

Okay. You can only socket Eprom ECU's, however. I'd still try to get an estimate, and make a decision from there.

I know this thread is a little old but I just wanted to throw out this little bit of info for anyone who searches. ECMTuning.com, makers of dsmlink, can do an eprom conversion to dsm ecus that aren't factory eprom. :rocks:
