ok so im asking this question for a few different reasons. 1, i really dont want to replace the heater core. 2, when every one says the smoke come out of the vents mine really doesnt it comes out of the seal where the top of the dash meets the windows. and 3, when i recently bypassed the heater core one of the hoses was effing rough. being probably the stock hose this thing had cracks all over it. so does anyone know or has ever experienced the difference between leaky heater core or bad hoses going to or from it?

If the hoses were bad, it would smoke in the engine bay. The heater core inlet/out extend past the firewall. So if your getting smoke inside the car, it's a bad heater core.

Looping the lines is a good short term fix, and much better than breathing in coolant.

Look at the hoses and you should be able to visually see if they're leaking or not. If you can't see it leaking from the hoses it's probably coming from the heater core itself. Usually if you get anything inside of the car at all, whether it's out of the vents, or from the windshield area, it's the heater core. :toobad:
