hey all , i own a 98 awd tsi talon and just start hearing a metal noise coming from the right side of my engine, not sure if its a pulley but it sounds like its coming from down low . car drives fine and idles perfect and i can only hear this at idle or in high gear under a bit of a load , when im on the gas i cant hear it ! any ideas on this ? oh i have light weight pulleys on the car too but not sure if thats of any help LOL thanks guys

I have a similar sound and I'm sure its a bad bearing in the pulley from the ac compressor , try turning your ac on ( if you have one ) and see if the noise goes away Or not while its on

Just to be exact, if your standing looking at the engine and the sound is coming from the belt area, that's the left side. I say this because if it's the "right" side of the car it would be the transmission making the noise.

I have sprayed some pb blaster on pullies to see if it quiets it down and if it does then I replace that part. How long after you put the pulleys on was it before it started making the noise

hello again , sorry i never got to reply sooner but i have the problem solved and it was the plastic guard screws backing out of the alternator . thanks
