Just bought one for $30.98 shipped from ebay. B&M Clone. I'll let ya know how I like it. Hopefully pairing this with a good old fashion fluid change will get rid of a pesky sencond gear.

who did you get it from? avoid seller epartsgogo. he's the one who sent me just the 2 main pieces, and when i sent him a picture of what i received, he sent me 3 random bolts. now he says he'll accept a return if i give him my part number and pay to ship it all back...

For those that are wondering....
turboimport . com has the cheapest Real B&M I have seen. $139.00.
I have ordered from them before, always in good condition and they ship fast.

hey guys... I was looking to get a short shifter for my eclipse gs-t. It's a 1997, but the shifter is kinda sloppy and that's the reason why i wanted to swap it out. I am having a difficulty choosing which short shifter to get. I know that ppl say B&M is the best, but it is also the most expensive one. How would you compare B&M with the other two? lemme know what you all think... Ralco or Fidanza are alot more cheaper than b&m..

B&M, Ralco, or Fidanza..

The only reason the B&M is more expensive is because its made of a differnt material and supports more knobs aswell as the stock I have the B&M SS W/ the Greddy Counter weight shift knob and it works great but I got my B&M and the Knob for only 75.00 bucks brand new on craigslist keep looking and a short shifter is a huge waste of money buy a cheap one on ebay and replace the busings with skate board bushings and it will be very smooth!

Megan Racing (another B&M knockoff) + Symborski kit + skate bearings. That was a great setup in my 97 GST. I never had any problems with the shifter, and it was only $40.

I purchased a Megan short shifter as well as the slowboy racing bushing kit AND the underhood skate bearings. Have yet to put them in but really excited. Thought I would add to the thread about something I noticed about the megan short shifter...

The bearing that everybody is talking about that goes into the purple/pink piece is already installed. No need to fuss with it so I am happy.

NOTE - Parts ordered from Modern Automotive Performance

Installed and MAN what a difference! The throw is pretty short. Gears 1-4 are really close together with 5 being way out in right field. I like it that way though. The clunking sound that some others were talking about is definitely there. Not a bad clunking. Shifts are definitely more defined. Still have some wiggle while in gear but nothing that bothers me any. I, personally, like megan parts. Quality products for the budget minded.

I got one for my 97 talon and with this picture, it makes it a very easy install. The only mod that I had to do was to slightly sand down the shaft that goes through the shifter pivot so that it would slide on. Here is the link for the B&M one. It was the only guide I used.

B&M Edge Short Shifter Instructions

I just picked up one about 3 weeks ago and it took under an hour to install. Just make sure when you put locktite on it you use the stuff that can be removed with penetrant not the permanent stuff, I learned that the hard way :ohdamn:

Mine was a PITA to install. The hole in the short shifter wasn't big enough to slide onto the shifter pivot. I had to glue sand paper around a dowel to enlarge the hole (probably took a couple hours total). I could have also just sanded the car's shifter pivot, which would have been a lot easier, but I don't really like permanently changing my car. If it's too small like mine, DONT make the mistake of forcing it on there with like a C-clamp. I had to freeze it and then pound it off, which was not fun.

Other than that it would have taken mabe 1/2 hour total to install.

That is the same thing that happened to mine, we beat the crap out of it with a hammer to try and force it on and then it took us a couple hours to get it back apart.

^^ Did you get an authentic B&M or something from Ebay?

I read that quite a bit of people have to sand this or that with a fake B&M. In my opinion, a shifter is extremely unique...like how tires are the ONLY part of the car that touch the road, the shifter is the ONLY control that YOU HAVE over your transmission and how your car will drive....That is NOT something that you want to screw up. Some of the fakes have been known to snap when shifted hard. I know that I'm off topic, but I would vote to GET THE REAL THING. That way you don't have to do any modifications on the plate or anything at all.

To your question, nah it does not take long. I had never fooled around with a shifter before I put mine on. I like to take my time and try to UNDERSTAND how to do stuff, and even with me it only took about 45 minutes to install the shifter. Some advice, do the bushings at the same time. It's a GREAT feeling :)

IMHO it would be in your best interests to get a B&M short shifter. I had a Megan one (back when Megan was just an ebay company) and that thing failed on me. I forgot which one it's called (either pivot shoulder or pivot pin) but it's the one that comes from megan and it snapped on me because it was "stainless" and it was actually chromed. Chroming weakens metals. And it broke not even on a "F**k you Mr. Syncro!!" speed shift, it was on a gingerly 3-2 downshift. I did end up fixing the problem before I went and bought me a B&M one though. I just lathed down a headstud to fit in its place . Plus, the B&M kit comes with all the stuff you need for it. Including a few extra E-clipse in case you drop one somewhere and can't find it (believe me, you'll end up finding it like a year later). Buy once I always say.
