I bought a Fidanza short shifter, the new ones have a stop in it, so no problems there. www.ultrarev.com was cheaper than ebay. I love it.

Holy hell that is cheap. It's about a third of the cost I paid for an original B&M.

i just got an ebay short shifter. however that 'unknown' piece like above wont fit inside the hole of that purple shifter pivot like the picture Defiant showed. should i force it in or try widening the hole more?

I had the same issue when i got my shifter, let's just say getting that piece into the hole took a lot of TLC, lube, and muscle. or just widen the hole. whichever one you feel is easier.

I have the same shifter. That "unknown" piece is a bearing. It does fit into it, but you'll have to beat it in with a hammer. Once you get it in far enough to start the nut onto the bolt, you can just screw it the rest of the way in.

If you are having a real hard time getting the bearing into that machined aluminum piece, but its pretty close to fitting, put the bearing in the freezer for about a half hour and put the aluminum piece in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Then quickly take them out of the freezer and boiling water and put them together. You only get one good shot at it, so make sure you have the bearing lined up when you put it in. (if it goes in a little crooked it will bind up and stop, then you will have to tap it in the rest of the way with a hammer). If it were mine, I would try this first before beating it in with a hammer.

Instead of beating, use a vise and a pair of sockets.

Has anyone bought one of the B&M knockoff short shifters on ebay and tried to cut and weld it to modify it? I'm trying to figure out if it is aluminum or steal?

In the link it says it is made of T6061, which by the searches I have pulled is aluminum.

I saw the reference to 6061 but it was phrased as a 6061 coating??? I had never heard of that before. I looked in another auction from a different seller and they state that it is made of steel. I wonder if these people know what they are actually selling!

I haven't had a chance to compare yet but it sounds like the short shifters don't actually reduce the height of the shifter much if at all and besides wanting shorter throws I also really dislike the look of such a tall shifter. Does anyone have any side by side pictures of the stock shifter and a b&m?

I bought one for my 1G from jsauto_accessories on ebay . It is all steel and wasnt shorter in height but I used a shorter knob which made a big difference in height. I was pleased with the shifter I bought from them. If you search for (short shifter eclipse 95-99) you will find this company.The buy it now was 25.99 which is a good deal. Hope this helps you some. I bought one from ebay that looked very much like that, but the store I bought it from was BoneheadPerformance's one on ebay, mine is aluminum.

You should find that the stick is steel (maybe stainless?), and the mounting boss is aluminum.

Regardless the material, it'll be easier and safer to cut down the top end and having it re-threaded. You can do it with a grinder and hand dies if you don't have a lathe.

an ebay copycat of the b&m shifter is just as good.

I have a b&m and I dont think it was worth the $150 I paid for it, so anything cheaper would be a good deal.

My friend has an ebay short throw shifter on his 93 nt, and it has a very nice feel. Very short, yet precise throws. Nothing wrong with a cheaper shifter as long as the quality is good. Usually, it turns out very good.

so now i want to get a short shifter, i loved my old B&M shifter on my RS but i dont wana shell out the 150 for a new one, i keep seeing the ebay short shifter and look just like the B&M ones for a fraction of the price. they look pretty dam good, but so did that drunk girl at the bar named mike. i just want somthing that will work well for the price. what to do...

Several members have the Ebay shifter and are very happy with it, several members have the Ebay shifter and think it's a P.O.S., The addage "you pay for what you get" usualy applies to items where the price difference is that drastic...I personaly am going with the Meagan racing short shifter for $75 from slowboy...My logic on the subject is that..If the Ebay shifters were any good..company's like Slowboy, MachV, and ExtremePSI would be selling them as well...
