Resolved Axle/trans spline matching

Since I have my GSX apart I want to wash the transmission since it is caked with years of crap like the t-case was. I don't want to put rags or plastic bags in the holes that the CV axles go into, so I came up with possibly putting the spare set of rear axles I have in storage into it so I wouldn't need to worry about it. The rears are from a '95 LSD and the trans is a '96 awd manual trans. Is this possible, or just wishful thinking?

wish on. Unfortunately, the LSD axles have one longer than the other. The front diff is 25-splines, so your one axle cup will work, not the long one though.

Bag them, or tear the transmission down and wash it in pieces.

Well that sucks. So which part is longer, the splined end that goes in the diff? If so I see why it won't work. Only asking this since it's my first GSX. Thanks for the info.

The longer LSD axle that would engage the viscous coupler in the rear diff will not fit. If I recall, the dust shields will also contact the transmission case.

Awesome. I won't waste my time pulling the spares off my spare LSD then, and just plug the holes the easier way. Thanks again.
