I bought a driver side axle shaft and it turns out to not have an abs sensor already installed. So my dilemma, is how would i go by taking the ABS sensor off of my old axle shaft and reinstalling it on my new axle shaft? Or should I just take it to a shop and have them install it? I have checked my Chilton's and Haynes manuals as well as the Talon service manuals.

just from looking at my ABS sensor. (you are talking about the ring with teeth on the wheel side of the axle) it looks like that is not something a lot of people have installed on a non ABS axle. You might be able to do it but that’s something they would have to do in a shop with a press or some other tool you probably don’t have. Why didn’t you buy a new axle with ABS?

The tone ring removes & installs relatively easily with a small hammer & a brass punch. Just be careful, & make sure that it`s installed on the axle straight & true(so it does not wobble while rotating). :talon:

well the reason i bought the axel was because napa orderd it for me with out telling me that it did not have the abs system on it, there reason is because it woulden't take as long as the axle shaft with the abs system on it already. they said the axel shaft with the abs system would take about 2 weeks to get there because of them being in low stock. they should have done it right the first time and got the abs system. do any of your think a shop would accept the part as is and do the work and put the abs system on or should i just send it back and have a good shop order the part and install it?

Just order a new ring from the dealer and have the shop put that on your axle shaft.

Because what if the old ring is rusty and it falls aprt after its removed (ive seen this happen before) - a shop might not want to take off the old ring because itll probably break.

The new abs toothed ring shouldnt cost alot of money.( i bet its less than $15)
