Axle cup/spline count for front and rear and interchangeability (I've searched).

Ok, so long story short. I need a new rear axle after attempting to remove a wheel bearing. The ends of the threads are damaged and I doubt I'll ever get the nut off of them. So my question is, will the outer axle cups from the front fit the back?

Is the spline count the same? Are the CV joints? I know the lengths are different on the actual axle and nobody has stock rears anymore. So I could just order a stock front, remove the CV/Splined axle and attach it to the rear axle and put it through the hub.

Thanks for any insight!

The front cv axles don't use a bolt on setup. Just one massive nut. So if you took your front axle and slid it the back im sure if it could fit it wouldnt be durable.

Thank you for the reply, I'm not sure I follow what your saying though. The rear one was just a 32mm nut holding it on. I'll pop the tire off the front and see if I can get it though.

But the splines would be the same? All I would need to use is the cup and splines off of a front axle. The CV joint, Axle and entire diff side is fine on the rear. I'd check it myself but the front is just as rusted as the back from the looks of it and it'd be the same issue to get out :ohdamn:.

Thanks again,

Joel

1g and 2g stuff is different 1g rear axles have a 3 or 4 bolt flange where they couple to the hubs, where a 2g rear axle is just like a front axle, where it slides in to the hub and engages via splines.

How bad are your threads? A good machine shop can more than likely fix them.

They are pretty ugly, the nut is on there and even it's mushroomed. I wasn't aware rear axles were so hard to come by haha. I'm not even sure how I'd remove the nut to remove the axle from the hub. Maybe I'll drop the entire thing by a machine shop and see what they say.
