AWD Starter on FWD tranny w/ AWD FW

ok trying to finish up a 6 bolt swap and used an AWD flywheel in a FWD tranny. well the starter doesn't have a big enough gear on the end to engage the smaller flywheel. My question is will an AWD starter bolt up to my FWD tranny. Also I'm not sure if the 1 g and 2g trannys are the same. but I have a 2g tranny and I don't I repeat DON'T want to seperate the tranny and engine unless I HAVE to

You have to.

The overall diameter of the AWD flywheel is smaller than what a turbo FWD flywheel would be, meaning that the starter locations on the AWD and turbo FWD bell housings are different. It has nothing to do with the starter itself.

There is nothing you can do with your current configuration (AWD flywheel and FWD turbo transmission) to fix this; the solution is a FWD turbo flywheel.

so you don't think i can change the gear on the end of the starter either?

I wouldn't expect to find a new Bendix gear that is roughly a half-inch greater in diameter and still maintain clearance in the starter housing.

I dont mind modifying. I have a 6 bolt that is running all 7 bolt parts except for the water pump. the block has been re channeled for the newer type oil pump and all.

might need it. I'll let you know how I make out and what it took if I am able to get it done without pulling the engine and tranny apart

Well the gear fixed the problem. had some old starters laying around that had been taken apart and one of the gears worked. So it is possible. Problem is I'm not sure which starter the gear came from as they were taken apart a while back but I know it's a domestic starter either ford or chevy
