AWD shell with FWD trans?

Alright, to make things short and simple:

Buddy of mine has a 95 FWD TSi.
It's rusted out beyond repair and the front suspension is affected by it, is pretty much not driveable.
He found an rust-free AWD 95 TSi shell with no motor, trans or tcase for VERY cheap(pretty much free). Comes with rear end and driveshaft. Literally only missing motor, trans and tcase.
They are both manuals.
He's in a pickle and can't afford a trans or tcase for the shell yet.

Now on to the questions:
Will the trans swap right into the AWD shell?

If so, can he just remove the driveshaft and leave the rear end in and DD it like that until he can afford a tcase and awd trans?

Yes, he COULD.. 2g transmissions are the same, mounting wise. And also yes, he COULD just remove the driveshaft and drive the car like that however, I would just save and buy and trans and t-case and do it right the first time.

EDIT: Also note that when the event comes to where he is buying a transmission and transfer case, they have to be the same sub generation as eachother. For example, dont buy a 2gb trans and tcase and bolt it in with the 2ga rear diff. Between the 2ga and 2gb the gear ratios are different. You have to match the parts so you arent tearing parts up.

I agree on the saving and buying the trans and tcase, but I know he's really tight on funds and labor is free on our days off..

He needs the car for winter or else he'd be driving his minty 79 firebird in some snow.. and that won't happen.

EDIT: Yup, I actually knew that! It's the only reason we haven't found an AWD trans and tcase because the only ones that pop up are wrecked 2gbs.

Well then just buy everything.. Trans, t-case and rear diff.. Boom done.

We'd have already done that.. most partout guys you text tell you they sold the rear or are keeping it because it's LSD. I hate this area.
