No they are not the same. The main differences in 95-96 and 97-99 rear ends is their gear ratio's. Each manual and automatic has a different rear ratio pertaining to each year. 97-99 rear ends cannot be used with 95-96 rear's because of these differences, likewise with auto/manual rearends.
