Because of my disability (left leg and back issues) and the fact that inconsistant clutch release has plagued me lately i just had a few questions

1.) learned myself what i need on this one continue to Q # 2

2.) with a car that has full stand alone EMS, what kind of signals are needed to run the trans without it's original TCU ? (i have outputs for TC lockup, but what signal types control line pressure and daily shifting?)

3.) is it only under high line pressure that down shifting sucks on these?

4.) How many of the mounts are different? is it just the top main one on the pasenger side?

5.)i KNOW the speed sensor is different but will the speedometer read accurrate in a 5spd car pullling from an auto speeed sensor?

6). maybe the most important how much heavier and harder to get in and out is this compared to the 5 speed (my crippled ass wana know)? I usually consider autos easier in other cars because there's no clutch splines to align, just making sure the converterstays alll the way in the trans/pump so it doens't chear the dogs off the pump is the main worry on those in other cars

7.) CAN i pull the ring and pinion from the auto rear diff and isntall that in my LSD rear 5spd unit (or vise versa install the LSD unit into the auto's housing and use it's ring gear on the LSD diff?)

8.)How well can you launch on an OEM 2g converter and what about clutch life on an OEM 2g trans with 450+ hp to it daily? (i do have anti-lag, two-step and nitrouse on the car currently)

9.)will my 5 speed front and rear axle/CV's work in the auto trans or are they different

I have an 95 drivetrain so since they are very different in some years i figure that is important info bein that my car is a 97
anyone interested in trading a 5sp setup for an auto LOL

Maybe..... But someone would have to travel.

Rebuilt trans w/shift kit, lsd rear diff.

1. You would need all hardparts - Trans/t-case/diff. As far as I know all auto t-cases are the same.

2. It would be best to use an auto engine harness. TPS/RPM/Speed are all used by the TCU. I run an Auto with an Evo 8 ecu.

3. Yes, and coming to a stop slowly when the trans slams it into 1st.

4. 2 the rear trans one, and the one on the front subframe.3

5. Yes, I run an auto in my manual car. No speed issues.

6. The trans is almost 300lbs with TQ Converter installed. We had to drop the front subframe and inch or two to get it in. ####ing bi***.

7. From what I was told from a few DSM shops, you can do that for the rear diff. For the stall question - I'm running a parts store reman TQ Converter, can only stall it to 2.5k. I also have a 14b and have not attempted to tune the stall to get it any higher.

8. IDK, I read somewhere that they swapped over but dont hold me to it.

Man, and i ALMOST moved to lakeland here about 5-6 years ago to take a job in construction site as a supervisor but my sapnish was poor and although it was able to be worked with, my ex-wife didn't like that it was through a friend who always had strippers at his house and was a single male whore (doens'st mean i am/would be) but she faught me tooth and nail on that move..shoulda divoreced her then LOL

hmm, i also read last ngiht the t-cases are different in both splies and an extra mounting bolt so i need to edit my main post

I got a 98 tsi awd auto non lsd that I've been looking to swap to manual.

got that much now
2. It would be best to use an auto engine harness. TPS/RPM/Speed are all used by the TCU. I run an Auto with an Evo 8 ecu.
my car is on a stand alone my harness is custom made with mitsu and GM connectors on the ends of wires from the aftermarket ECU, i cna change adapt as needed

3. Yes, and coming to a stop slowly when the trans slams it into 1st.
if i turn line pressure back down on deceleration can i down shift it like OEM non modded feels like?

4. 2 the rear trans one, and the one on the front subframe.3
so the top one opposite the one at the timing gears (big sucker) and then the front roll stop? rear roll stop is the same????

5. Yes, I run an auto in my manual car. No speed issues.
cool, thanks

6. The trans is almost 300lbs with TQ Converter installed. We had to drop the front subframe and inch or two to get it in. ####ing bi***.
v gawdamn!!!!! really, an OEM FWD is only like 60lbs, i've shipped them at fed ex.. i definitely can't lift that in my condition

7. From what I was told from a few DSM shops, you can do that for the rear diff. For the stall question - I'm running a parts store reman TQ Converter, can only stall it to 2.5k. I also have a 14b and have not attempted to tune the stall to get it any higher.
I hope so, i'd like to keep the LSD and if i could find an open rear diff cheaper it might help cause cost is gonna be my biggest enemy

8. IDK, I read somewhere that they swapped over but dont hold me to it.
if not than that would probably be a deal breaker cause it's just that many more parts that makes it to where i should have went auto when i did the swap LOL

damn, i have to type out of quotes to make post long enough

You could get an auto harness can 'cut out' the TCU part. Only a few wires go to other items like rpm/speed/tps.

For the line pressure gimic. You can get an Eprom TCU like myself and have a custom burned chip made that has full line pressure on upshifts but normal on downshifts.

Rear roll stop is offset 1/2in-3/4in to the passenger side compared to the manual version.
So the rear and passenger side ones are the auto specific ones.

Well, unless i find something local i don't think i'm paying shipping on a 300 lb trans, let alone swapping all that again in my physical condition, like i said i shoudl have went auto from the start it sounds like.. I think i'll find a spare 2g 5speed AWD trans and with soem help and parts from mister Zimmer hopefully build me a nice trans. Mine when the cluch issues are solved (now thank god) shifts good enough being 160k mile stocker and i'm sure i can improve on that as well as make a nice trans in my spare time with a little money here and there.. I can get shot peening and such done, then invest in a 4 spider CD and i think that's gonna have to be how i roll with this.

I would really love an auto that performed like other performance built autos but it sounds like the DSM trannies just can't do it.. at least shift in both directions and be either full manual or full auto select valve body.. If it just had 4 gears + a locking converter it would be more tempting, but 3 + a locking TC, that isn't as appealing and the main reason i want it is for my disability's sake and to ease pain but for what it sounds like it's gonna cost and weigh with the amount of work and time i truely don't think i coudl do this if i wanted to right now unless some one walked up locally said "i'll trade you drivelines and help you swap them in a weekend" :( sucks cause i've always wanted to feel that 67mm turbo pull hard at 30psi through a few gear without ever letting off the thorttle.. i third it already feels like you're on an airplane taking off :D

edit; plus if you're on a restall and only hitting 2500 RPM, i know i'd have to either be spraying a 200 shot or neutral dropping that bi*** off the line LOL . Still, maybe one day it will all work out, I had given up on the AWD swap and that just fell into my lap some years after i gave up on it, who knows next summer a totaled auto might roll into my possesion or something and make it worth my time and get me some labor to help it all happen :D

Its not a re-stall. Its just a cheap ass replacement one.

Just drive down here and we'll do it. I have access to some shops around! haha

Find me a physical therapist, a pain management center where i can get my shots and my pills and i'll scrape togher gas money to make it happen..

P.S. can i crah on your couch :D LOL

There are tons of those around... I have a couch, well two extra bedrooms.

Maybe more around the Shootoff, we'll think about it.

i was joking but it wouldn't be the first time i've up and left on a whim to go do something fun i wanted t do, that was my favorite thing about owning a construction company back before the injuries really stopped me.. I could leave my best guy to run a job with one other person, leave for a week or two and stunt motorcycles, go camping, whatver i wanted with little to no notice.. now i have less holding me down but pain and my physical needs have to be planned around accordingly.. i hear thre's "pill mills" in FL, but pain meds are an evil nessecity...easy to get carried away with and hard to stay in the realm of "managin pain" and not "staying numb" which the second one is what led me to almost paralyze myself and not even feel it.. now i've backed meds down to where i always feel what's going on although it hurts more i'm at least aware that if i start to worsen an injury i can feel it... swinging 40 foot ladders with 3 vertebre with no disks between them and a dislodged L4 to L5 with bulging pinched disk on top of a left leg that the doctors said "it's the worst one we've ever put back together and didn't just give the guy a wheel chair or prosthetic"

Anyway, yea.. few friends got way carried away recreational on what are my meds down that way, so i know those i could get... not sure about a real good therapist though, gotta stay on top of that or i loose motion , but hell, a aweek or so somehwere i can do,like i said i was mainly joking ..

well back to work, back is tolorable from working on the DSM, now i gotta wire up a complete electrical harness from scratch on a karmann ghia

Well I'll have an extra trans/t-case/rear lsd laying around soon. So keep that in mind. The trans would need a rebuild, just from high mileage.

I'll remeber that for sure, as a matter of fact email me (or PM me with it and i'll print out your name, phone number and put in my DSM file, i forget deals with tuners screen names a LOT cause i get so many going but it would be nice to know hwere to grab what i need should it be in the cards i have the funds or something worth a trade to pick up the auto swap

BUT, after fixing my 5 speed today (check my clutch fix thread) i feel like i'm in an entirely new car again literally it's 100 times easier on my leg and back to drive now too :D but when i replace this as my DD and go all track with it i want auto for sure!!!

old thread but... you can wire the pressure solenoid to a selector or something to control the line pressure.. then you can just shift the car manually.. ive seen people do that.. i saw a car here at KCIR before they closed.. was running low 9's on an auto gsx.. they really didnt even stall the car to launch.. kinda putted out.. they said the trans was stock... aslo on my 95 auto fwd.. i can stall it past 3k-4k.. bad thing is you ahve full boost and burn the tires off so its pointless... once you get over the 2.5k hump and start spooling it will keep going
