alright so ive searched and im tired as hell and just cant seem to find exactly what im looking for. i bought a 90 tsi awd and its cool and all but its just not as fun as it could be being an auto tranny. when i lose i want to be able to blame it on the miss-shifts. :thumb: but basically im just asking if anyone can point me to a write up for a 1g awd auto to awd 5 speed conversion. or give me a parts list so i know exactly what i need. i got some stuff written down but im sure im missing something and definitely any thing i might run into that someone can help me out with. thanks guys any input would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. looking to buy 5 speed swap stuff :hellyeah:

Auto seems to be where its at now-a-days. People seem to be switching there 5 speeds to autos more often than people swap to 5 speeds. Id keep it auto, check out what english racing has been doing with their auto 16g car, and you may rethink swapping.

I would love to have an auto 1g as a dd, I have actually been looking for a cheap one for a while.

Well I was gonna part it or sell it as a whole. It needs an ecu but its growing on me.. I've never been a 1g guy but its mean lookin. I just don't like how auto's don't seem as efficient I guess you could say when shifting. I've never looked into shift kits and stuff for autos but I don't see needing that for a quick dd should be fine. But if in the future I put a 16g and maybe up boost will I have problems with tranny slippage?

Ill trade you a super rare 1990 auto awd :thumb:

Still waiting for that VIN to verify it's a 1990 car.

Better hope your build date is after 6/90, otherwise you will NEVER find an ECU for that 1990 Auto AWD car. To answer your actual question, YES. Anything above 300hp and the clutch packs will get eaten away pretty quickly at stock line pressure. If you want the clutch packs to last, gotta do the full line pressure mod. Kinda sucks in a daily driver, but the shifts will be hard and fast. You CAN make the mod reversible tho.

i went from a auto to a 5speed 4 years ago and now seeing all the sick auto cars i wish i would have stayed auto for sure.

Aren't the TCU and ECUs separate? at least in 2gs they are.

Then that must mean there was a paperwork error at the dmv or something I still gotta go check the vin I guess that's my only means of figuring out what year this thing is. Ill check the door though and see on the sticker what the production date was so if it is 6/90 that would make it a 91 correct?

The 10th digit of the VIN is the model year.
L = 1990
M = 1991
N = 1992
P = 1993
R = 1994

O and Q are too easy to confuse with a 0 so they are skipped.

In general production for a model year started in June and ended the following year in May. 90's and 93 are the exception.
