Avid Mount Kit Install Problems...

The trans mount isn't working at all. With the bolts threaded the whole through the body of the car and through the mount. The mount still hangs approx 1/4" of an inch off the frame. Here are some pictures. The four mount bolts are in as far as they'd go.

I have been trying to get support from Avid since the 1st of this month on this problem and have not had any help from them. Has anyone else had this problem?

Tighten down the nuts and it should pull tight to the frame rail.

Im assuming the threads are on the mount (Im not too familiar with 1g)? because it looks like the bolt runs out of thread and is not letting the mount push up against the wall anymore.

are the other mounts tightened down or still kinda loose? and i think you need to jack up the tranny a bit. what are you using to tighten those bolts?

Trans is on a jack and we tried lifting and lowering the jack/trans to make it work. And it just wouldn't.

Yes there are threads on the mount. One of my conclusions is not enough thread like you stated. I found a local fastener shop with a full thread 50mm bolts. They don't have 60mm bolts that Avid recommends. So I am gonna give the 50mm a try.

It sucks that I pay hundreds of dollars for a product that I have to run around and buy stuff to make it work when it should work strait out of the box.

that sucks, but the bolts that go in that mount from the factory are wayy shorter than 50mm and they kind of get lesser in diameter on the tip but are still threaded so you don't have to have the bolt straight or the mount on center. they are usually like 1-1.5" long

a M10x1.25x30 will work fine, a 50 mm would be sticking out of the mount almost an inch!

I had this same problem but I believe I just used the wrong bolts. Ill go out and check. All the bolts that came with the mounts worked though.


P.S. I just checked and I did infact reuse the stock bolts. They worked fine and only stick out though into the engine about an eighth inch.

Update:

I drove approx 62 miles today between different fastener shops. I finally found four bolts that worked and it isn't what Avid suggest (M10x1.25x60). The bolts they suggest and include with their kits are not full thread bolts. When the mount gets to the end of the thread it pushes the mount away from the body like shown in my pictures. If anyone needs these bolts due to Avid Racing's mistake just toss me a PM.

I have the same mounts; mine fit perfectly with the supplied hardware. If I remember correctly the bolts have washers that go on the other side of the frame, probably about the thickness of the gap in the picture.

I am having the same issue as the OP. The washer supplied are too skinny to make up the difference of gap. Looks like I'll either reuse the stock bolts or get shorter ones.

I am installing these mounts and ran into the same damn problem. The supplied bolts are M10x1.25x40mm They are not threaded all the way through to the head, so I am reusing the stock bolts. Thumbs down on Avid's part for not thinking this one through.

Do you think the stock ones are long enough to hold them up?

I just reused the stock bolts earlier. The two on the side facing closest to the radiator stick out a good 1/4". The two on the side facing the firewall are pretty much flush with the mount.

On the stock mount, the flange is really thin and there are 4 "nut" type of things that the stock bolts thread into. On the Avid mount, the flange is a lot thicker and the bolts just thread straight into that.

I don't see there being a problem with the way it is set up right now, but I know for a fact that those bolts that came with the kit will not work, because they are only threaded about halfway.

Avid racing steel mounts. Trans Mount holes are not threaded and supplied hardware isn't worth a dam.
The smaller bolts with washers are way too long and the thicker bolts don't fit through the hole. Neither is there any threads in the holes for the bolts to thread into. Why is that? I have to get the correct hardware myself instead of avid simply supplying the correct bolts for the mounts they made?

Yep that was my thoughts on the avid mounts too JUNK. The front roll stopper urethane on mine disintegrated the first day I had installed them.
