Well the local SCCA club had a learn to drive day, and I took it out there. I've autox'ed before, but in a 73 mustang and a 89 honda. There's some comparisions b/t the honda and my talon, but not many.
For one thing, I really didn't have much push. If anything the car was pretty balanced, and on occassion the rear ones wanted to come out a lil bit. The car rolls a bit much, but I have a ST 1" swaybar to put on. My honda pushes at the first bit of fun to be had, and the crappy tires start crying for mercy. I have 712's on the talon, and it seemed like I could push the car as hard as I want to and it'd hold. Seems like I could power out of a corner a good bit earlier than I should be able to in a comparable rwd or fwd car. AWD kicks ass.
I just have exhaust and the boost set at 14psi, but that's plenty. Even lugging it down at 2k in 2nd I could still power away pretty decently. Much better than a 92 hp honda.
Steering was good, the instructor drove my car a few times and compared to the other awd cars in my group, he really liked it.
The brakes are alright, I really need a better set of pads. I might invest in rotors but probably not.
The tranny was good to me. It's real apparent I need more practice in launching an awd car. The car was pretty smooth when I had to downshift, but I tried to avoid it when I could.
Auto-x is pretty fun. It's a great place to learn your cars limits. Even w/ the stuff I see on here that doesn't give the 1G real high regards for the ride, my car seemed to do very well for what it was. I'd encourage everyone on here to hook up w/ an SCCA club in their area and start racing. Drag racing is fun, but unless I'm in a 12 sec or better car, it can't compare to auto-x.
