So i just picked up a 90 talon, my first dsm, and have laid out a set of upgrades and wanted to get some input my goal is to run mid 11s maybe. I'm not looking for something that puts out crazy numbers.

eagal rods
top line pistons- because I'm poor
20g
264 cams
3in catless exhaust
fp exhaust manifold
punishment racing fmic
walbro 255 pump
FIC injectors 750
innovate wideband
greddy boost controller
dsmlink- i think im going to try the speed density setup

any input would be great and this doesn't include some little stuff like clutch and mounts but that stuff will be there for the build.

What mileage/condition is the vehicle in right now?
What's your budget?
You will probably get most replies saying do the maintenance first.
So do that first and then worry about "upgrading."

You should post a list of what parts you have already to allow others to give you help as well.

Good luck and don't forget to use the upgrade paths :)

its a little rough body has 180 engine has almost 100, that means timing belt is coming up
now that i think about it around 5k
i know that its going to need little things here and there maintenance related
im just looking for input like you need bigger this or your going overboard with that

your gonna need to get 3g revised lifters and remove the balance shafts, front and rear. then i would seriously consider getting a bigger radiator. the cooler your engine runs the better. after doing that i would upgrade your oil cooler and lines. the cooler the engine runs, the longer it will last, and better it will run the longer your parts will last.

i would reccommend spending a few bucks and getting this book. it was written with one of the guys from RRC, who are the best of the best at dsms ... they go over all sorts of parts and the correct way to doing things.

just my .02 coming from an automotive tech

if your goal is 11 sec pass A 20g will get you there if you run E85
for you to be able to run E85 you would have to get walbro 255 1200cc and dsmlink

you might also consider running 272 cams instead of the 264 cams

For spending the money on eagle rods and getting crappy pistons is really defeating the purpose. You minus will just go 2g pistons 1g rods if you are trying to save money. If you go eagle then you minus will get quality pistons that can handle a beating like ross, wiseco(hd). Your budget will jump big for these which is why i say go with a 2gpiston/1grod combo. It will work fine and get you into 11's with that 20g. Tons of people have done it on pump gas around here.
Same thing with the cams go with what is tried and true. 272's. 264's are just going to make you wish you went to 272's. Spend your money right the first time and you wont have to worry about it in the long run.
BSE kit is a must.
Ditch the greddy boost controller, dsmlink has a boost control solenoid you can get and control boost from the link. I've heard alot of positive things about it.

You also need to throw in a adjustable fuel pressure regulator in there, and will also want to upgrade your suspension and brakes.
Your budget will jump up very quickly my friend. Everyone always says they dont want to go crazy at first and it's not about going crazy it's about getting it done right which costs $$$$

But honestly right now I would seriously SERIOUSLY look into getting the timing belt done. If the balance shaft belt hasn't been changed in 100k miles then it is about to break anytime. This is not something to just wait because you will regret it and be looking for a new head like me.

wow this is great thank you everyone would it be difficult to remove the balance shafts.

Hey what's up. I'm from Scott AFB. I'll be home in 3-4 weeks, look forward to meeting you. Ok, now that I'm done coming off as a creeper.

If you have no huge goals just use a stock block, it is completely capable of putting your ass down the track quickly. It will save you some money, and you can use that money on other shit.

^^^^ You're confusing.

Use punctuation.

And yeah, pop ups are the shit. But a white 1gb is a billion times better.:thumb:
