My car is a 91 GSX automatic, all stock, ~83k miles.

My injectors are stock 390cc's. They intermittently make very loud ticking noises. The ticking sound is so loud that I can hear it from inside the car while driving. The car doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. What could be causing them to be so noisy? I know that DSM injectors are all noisy, but these are abnormally noisy at times.

I want to replace the injectors, but I'm having a hard time finding stock replacements that are not ridiculously expensive. Autozone for example wants $200 per injector. What are my options? I don't really want to have to mod the entire fuel system/EM system just to get a fresh set of injectors.

The simple solution is to go to ebay or the classifieds. You can grab a set for about $40.

An alternate solution is to buy some stock manual/2g injectors for $50 and a 1g manual ecu. At that point you aren't putting out a lot of money, you also aren't having to do any tuning and the whole system will be plug and play with better potential performance.

Any idea on what could be causing them to be so loud?

Are you sure its the injectors? They shouldnt sound to loud when youre in the car....but valves can, if the valves are hitting the pistons you will be able to hear the sound from the driver seat. Bad timing or if you over revved the engine will do that. And ys you can buy stock fuel injectors for cheap on ebay or craigslist.

i have the same noise on my 93 tsi talon, its is an intermittent noise, loud for a few seconds then quit for a few and loud again, can that be lifters? i was thinking injectors also, since a pulled the oil cap and listened for a knock inside the cam covers, no noise, its behind the motor, where the injectors are

Ah, Didn't know you were on tuners, Mac.

It is a little strange for your injectors to be 'loud.'

Can you define Loud on a scale? 1-10. 1 being a Cat Step, 10 being a Nuclear Bomb.
