I just bought the eclipse a week ago...Its got an automatic transmission, which doesn't bother me, I woulda rather got a 5spd, but the older models are hard to find here, and this one i got a hell of a deal on.....So, If i wanted to drag race, what could i do with an automatic, I know I'll never probably have the same response as the manual tranny, but I wanna be able to keep up....Can someone help me?????

i opt for option (D) sell the n/t and get a turbo dsm, it will be cheaper in the long run.

I would have to agree. In order to be cost efficeint anyways. The money it would take to make the 420a with an automatic equal to a stock 4g63, wouldn't be worth it. I'd say really you have 3 options.

1. Keep it as a daily driver and don't mod it.

2. Save up and buy whats needed to turbo the 420a.

3. Sell it now and get a turboed one.

I don't want to sell, this is also my DD, So i'd like to keep it...So the shot of Nitrous won't work??? I read that a 50 Shot might work with stock internals??? Is this true, or a myth???

This is very true. I had a 75 dry shot on my 96 n/t, that I ran for about five months, before I sold the kit and put in a built motor. Nitrous is cheaper and easier to comprehend than trying to do just about anything else. Now, I do not recommend doing over a 50 wet, on a completely stock motor, but it SHOULD hold it with ease. But I just picked up a 1st gen Awd for $300, so I'm going to go that route now too.

go with option 1, save and buy a turbo 1g. i've gottin i've gottin several of my friend a total of 5 1g's all for between $300-900. most of them only needed minor things to get them going, not to mention they were all awd too.

Thanx for the responses, I think Nitrous is going to be the way to go....I can't just buy a car right away either, ### i just got this one last week and it's all my money, <--Broke college kid.....Anyways, I like the turbo idea, and that could be in the future, but this car being my daily driver and me being a novice mechanic is just asking for a long night, or mayb no car to drive the nxt day:).....My Big question is, whats the difference between a Wet Shot and a Dry shot? What can the motor take better with stock internals, i've already looked at upgrades for the engine, But whats the diff? I see u say it can take a dry shot of 75 and only a wet of 50, which one is better on the engine, and which is going to give me more of a boost in horsepower, Becuz i'm thinking Nitrous is the way to go....

A dry nitrous system is one that introduces only nitrous oxide to the charge. This type of system relies on the relatively rich factory tune, and the extra fuel added while WOT. A wet nitrous system is one that supplies extra fuel, as well as the nitrous, to the air charge. A wet kit is much safer for the motor, as there is less of a chance of running lean.

I cannot tell you for sure how much nitrous the factory motor can handle. The information should be around, search the 420a forums. I can tell you that it is safer to run a wet shot over a dry shot, on any motor.

Most people would agree that if your looking to add a little shot of nitrous to your car, a zex kit is the way to go. I wouldn't go higher then a 50 shot. I mean is the tad bit of power you might make from a a 75 or 100 shot worth a possible engine problem? You said your a broke college kid, so don't get the nitrous and purge yourself into a money pit.

Definately go with a wet shot. It is much safer on the motor, because of the fuel that the kit adds itself. You only have to worry when you start to run out of gas, i.e. dry shot. The wet adds fuel while the dry does not. I had a dry shot and had absolutely no problems, but I knew what I was doing and what my afr's were at all times. To be safe and not have too many worries, I would go with a 50-65 wet shot, if you start to feel any amount of detonation, just let off the button. I would also recommend to use a higher octane fuel, because of the higher resistance to detonation.
