I am looking at buying a 91 talon tsi awd turbo with an automatic trans. Can I build this car into an 1/8 mile beast or would I be better off with a 5 speed?

If you build the auto correctly and get a nice stall it would be a real consistent 1/8 or 1/4 car. The 5 speed will probably be faster WITH and only with a good driver. Auto can probably hold more power as well (if built).

Get a 5 speed, it's alot more fun around town.

Yes but he was asking if he could build it to do good in the 1/8 or the 1/4, not if it would be happy fun time while he drives. People tell me all the time that auto isn't fun. Truth is, at the track, the autos are always running consistent, while the manuals are missing a shift, etc.

If your goals are to run good consistent times at the track, and not have to worry about shifting or anything, then yes, auto would be great.

One thing i like about the auto is that you dont lose boost between shifts because ,the turbo stays spooled up. If your getting an auto for a good price i would say yea buy it.

I doubt that. The 5 speed has less powertrain loss so it will have more power to the ground. But like I said if you can't drive then the auto will definitely be faster.

Auto is best for drag racing and manual is best for road racing.

yea, stock for stock. but when u start modding the a/t compared to a 5 speed, u will have faster shifts, and no errors.

with an auto you will run 10's before you run 12's like the site says,

no but really, auto's brake boosting kick ass.
no burt clutches, no broken trannies, no broken axles,
of course you WILL need to build it(shift kit, end clutch, TC ect.)

and of course a big trans cooler, for cooling down your 300deg temps when you brake boost.

anyone else have something "important" to say before this gets locked?
