Can you pass inspection and stuff if you attach the racing harness to the back of the seat? or.... should I not do it because it would not really hold you in too well???

But technically the seat is anchored to the car... so in a way it is, not that I am trying to fight till you guys just say it is, I am just trying to figure out a way to mount mine, while allowing ppl into the back seats.

Why would you want to do that? I'm not sure about what saeat you have but a lot of the aftermaket racing seats have a fiberglass backing... if you anchor the harness into that and have a wreck then the seat will crush you breaking in half and the seatbelt would be pointless.

Add a crossbar behind your seat that is safely supported and anchor your harness into that.

I thought it looked ghetto running through the rear seat, so I attached the harnesses to my seat brackets. They are on the floor. They aren't going anywhere. This won't be permanent. I want a harness bar. I'll probably fab 1 so I don't have straps going across the rear seat area. So ummmm "people can still be seated."

Lets put it this way. If they see some silly racing harness in the car, they will be more prone to checking everything in the car.

actually, that is a brite idea.... on the floor... that could work, and I know... cops usually do look more into cars when they see racing set ups.

this is true. I work at an inspection station and stuff is checked ALOT more on cars that are modified, like the seat belts.

are the people that are sitting in the back going to have racing harnesses too?

As was stated before in another thread ..

Attaching the belts to the floor behind your seat is a bad idea. Attaching them to the floor will cause major spinal injury in case of an accident. The belt will in event pull downward toward the floor on your shoulders. The safest way is to have them mounted at a 90 degree angle to your seats. The 90 degree will allow the belts to pull you into the seat rather than towards the floor. My 2 cents .. but you'll never pass an inspection at the track with them attached to the floor. The roll bar is the best bet.

Yeah .. just hope no one hits you .. or nothing fails on your car god forbid.

Good luck

alrite, so... basically to do it the right way you really can't have ppl able to get to the back seats?

normally most people that put the full harness end up with an 8 point cage and remove the back seats anyway.

But to answer your question .. yes the back seats will pretty much be usless.

anyone who says that can't be done has no clue. Fiberglass is your friend.

not positive but i think he was referring to the fact taht he wouldnt have functional back seats with the harnesses properly installed with the bar, as being what wasn't possible .. not that he couldnt mount additional 6x9's in the rear of the car ..

I may be wrong but thats the way i read it.

Not in at least two weeks .. LOL

I built a rear deck that goes flush with the hatch floor all the way to the front seats. I decided i didnt like the bare floor look so this looks alot sweeter. Plus i can use it as extra storage. Ill take pictures as soon as i can remember.

I got tired of hearing people complain about lack of leg room and f*cking with my shit so i said screw it. Its nice too .. not having to haul people around cause i only have two seats .. so now i never have to drive anywhere! :thumb:

well, Actually, I mean its impossible for both... I mean, I can't figure out how to mount it and have it look atleast semi nice. If anyone has a clue on it, help me plz, I am newb to fiberglassing and all that good stuff.

Yup. It's a sacrafice. If you really want passengers crammed in the backseat, then you must use the OEM seatbelts. But, we all know that a DSM backseat isn't worth much anyway, and if you were smart about it, you would value your own safety, consider your car a 2-seater, and mount you race harnesses correctly.

Using an improperly mounted seatbelt, is almost as bad as not using one at all.....

Yeah, I know what you mean, I am gonna leave it a 4 seater though and not use race seats until I can get a car to make into a daily driver, so this daily driver is able to retire.

find a way to put an extra set of 6.5" spaekers up Front! too much sound behind you will ruin all of the staging you have. More sound coming from in front of you = more listening pleasure. :thumb:
