Arp head studs felpro head gasket. I would like to know if there is preferd torque spec since it's not stock replacement. New rebuilt bottom end cleaned head 5 angle valve job. Yes I no I should use a different head gasket and I switch it out but it's what I have for now. I haven't filled in my info because the car is not finished any questions please ask.

If the funds aren't there then why don't you wait a few weeks and save $80 for a Mitsu composite HG? The cars not running anyway and if you blow the HG right after you put EVERYTHING together your going to be alittle frustrated. Anyway, if the ARPs are new, the heads been resurfaced, and you don't want to listen to the above advice then screw it and use the Felpro HG you've already got.

The torque specs on the ARP headstuds is 90 ft/lbs but you get there in (4) steps and theres a torque sequence you MUST follow. When I installed my NEW headgasket I sprayed it with Permatex Copper Spray and following the torque sequence I did it in (4) steps. Torqued them all down to 25, then 50, then 75, & then 90 ft/lbs and after 500 miles re-torqued them again to 90 ft/lbs.

Be sure to use ARP assembly lube on the threads of the headstuds when your installing them too.

I think with ARPs its a 4 step tightening sequence with 90 FTLBS being the final torque number.

That's what I'm doing but I never herd that the felpro gaskets were that bad when used with arp head studs. Is it a must to have the mitsu?

You should be okay with the headgasket, but it's certainly a better assurance to have the Mitsu spec one.

Listen to what they said above about the sequence to follow as it is ESSENTIAL. It is not an option.

90 ft/lbs is a bit high for the standard 11mm 7-bolt head studs. I'd firmly recommend 75-80 ft/lbs. max using moly lube.

The Felpro HG is just fine to use with ARP studs. I've installed that combo on several various 4G engines that I've rebuilt over the years, and I've never had a single issue with one.

The instructions that came with my 6 bolt ARP head studs say: With ARP molly lube 80 ft. lbs., with 30 weight oil 120 ft. lbs.

I tightened mine to 85 ft. lbs. with the ARP molly Lube.

Also if you are going to be raising the boost, the only composite head gasket that I would trust (and I am personally using one) is the OEM Mitsubishi one.

Id use the moly and hit about 85ft on the head studs. For a head gasket I would only use a composite if you didnt deck the block or head and you know their not straight. Otherwise I would use an oem mls or felpro. But Ive done some testing with the ITM mls head gasket and Id use them over and over plus there only $70. So far its held to 40psi with standard arp head studs (plus a 75shot of nos).

Felpro is a nice brand, but I would rather go with an OEM composite mitsubishi head gasket. I would recommend using copper spray for it too like stated above.
If you change your mind and decide you want an OEM composite head gasket PM me cause I have one thats never been opened

I'm using a Fel-pro gasket. It's a company that has been around for years and makes OEM parts. If it was some no-name company I'd be worried, but I personally am not.

The ONLY reason I suggested you get a Mitsu composite is from the sentence above it sounds like your re-using your old headgasket. If thats NOT the case then by all means use the Felpro, its fine.

A bit confusing in his OP up top, it sounds like he's going to use the head gasket he already has. One thing I've realized the last 25yrs of my life is NEVER assume, thats when mistakes happen.

Ive used felpro for many hg replacments over the years never had any problems with mine. Throw some arps and your good to go.

I have always used felpro gaskets on all my engine builds and never had a problem with any no matter what car it was on.

I've used FelPro gaskets for years (At least 30) never had a problem.Sometimes the reasoning is newer is better but that is not always the case.

There's no such thing as a universally accepted "boost limit" for any head gasket. The answer would depend on too many variables. Which compressor is being used, the engine"s tune, etc...
