are automatic and manuel transmission ECU's the same?

No they are not. The automatic ECU has shift points built in to it shift the tras, while the manual ecu does not have those shift points in it. Technically you can use an automatic ecu in a manual (I wouldn't do it, but it can be done) but you can't use a manual ecu in a automatic, because the manual ecu lacks the shift points to shift the trans. Hope that helps.

The only difference is that Auto ecu's have a pin out for the park/neutral lever swtich. You can use a manual ecu in an automatic or vise versa. Just to let you know on our cars the TCU is completely seperated from the ECU

Actually the automatics are made to run with a 43psi base idle and they have slightly different fuel maps.
2nd gens turbo ecus auto and manual have the same fuel maps and run off 43psi for fuel pressure
1st gens are different because the autos came with a smaller turbo and smaller injectors

Your really not doing very well on the accuracy of your postings lately.

Do you even own DSM?

If you do please update your profile. I know your trying to be helpful but you really shouldn't reply to posts unless you have hands on experence in the specific topic or have researched the question using DSM specific support material.

The 2G 4G63 ECU's are identical between the manual and automatic cars down to the part numbers. http://simon.chi.il.us/~steve/Auto/DSM/ECUID.html

Steve is 100% correct and to add to it I have had both auto and manual ECU's in my car. When I did the swap I drove it with the auto ecu with the TCU unplugged and then swapped it for the manual ECU again with the TCU unplugged they both function exactly the same.

I believe he was asking if the Manual and Automatic TCU's are the same.....maybe i read wrong.

Considering there is no such thing as a Manual TCU unless you count the driver, I'd guess you read it wrong.
